Manchester City have accepted an offer from Middlesbrough for central defender Sylvain Distin.
In what has been one of the summer's longest running transfer sagas, City have repeatedly rebuffed Boro's attempts to land the accomplished Frenchman.
Distin captained City last term and was regarded as an integral figure at the club but Middlesbrough chief Gareth Southgate has been persistent in his desire to bring the player to The Riverside.
Portsmouth were also linked with an approach for the 28-year-old but it would now appear he is closing on a switch to the Teesside outfit.
City have confirmed that Distin is in talks with Middlesbrough about personal terms, with a deal expected to be completed before this weekend's Premiership kick-off.
I think Distin would be a very good buy for us, should we get him. He was massive for Man City last yeara and i think he would be the same for us!
If we get him, and still get Huth on loan until his fitness is fully proved we would have a backline which would be very tough to break down.....Distin, Riggott and Huth playing as a back 3. Not many teams would like to come up against those in a game!
I heard on the radio this morning that "money bags" Redknapp from Pompey has just put a bid in for Distin and is prepared to offer a better salary to him. Lets hope he isnt another foreign mercenary!
Stuart Pearce says he will not give in in trying to persuade Distin to stay and I for one would not like 'Psycho'Pearce on at me for anything. The stumbling block for Pearce is he cannot offer more than £40,000 per week (cheapskate!!), and I get theimpression from the newspaer reports that if he did Distin would stay. I can't say that fills me with assurance if the guy is hanging out for a few grand a week. I don't think this one is cut and dried yet. I would like to see Boro sign Huth even on loan, with a view to buying him, he is younger and a current German international. He could prove his fitess during the season and we could sign him permenantly then.
