    Jamaica Defender Stabbed to Death

This sort of thing is utterly disgraceful. Another footballer killed by thugs in Central/South America.

Jamaica defender Oraine Simpson has died after a stabbing incident.

A spokeswoman for the Jamaican Constabulary Force said the 26-year-old was stabbed after an altercation during an impromptu kick-about game on Tuesday night.

Simpson, who last played for his country against St Kitts and Nevis in August, was taken to Kingston Public Hospital where he died.

The spokeswoman said no arrests had yet been made but that they were looking for a man they believe to be involved in the incident.

Simpson played for Jamaican champions Tivoli Gardens who represent one of the most notoriously violent neighbourhoods in Kingston.

"To lose a loved one is really a heart-wrenching feeling but to lose one in the prime of life is even more heart-wrenching and I feel especially for his children, parents and siblings," said Jamaican Football Federation president Horace Burrell in a statement.

"Throughout his association with the national team, Oraine displayed the qualities that one would want in a national representative. He was well-mannered, committed, willing, represented the country with pride and was always a team player.

"He enjoyed his game and played with a smile on his face and was never seen to sulk if he did not make the final 11 or even the squad. These treasured memories of him we will hold dear to our hearts," added Burrell.

Jamaica failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
