    How to Eat a Rambutan

Edited by John Comeau, Krystle, Jack Herrick, Sondra C and 14 others

Rambutan, a native of Southeast Asia, now grows in tropical climates all over the world. The leaves differ from one variety to another, but the hairy or spiky red (when mature) fruits are unmistakable. Rambut is the Malay word for "hair". Try one next time you're in the tropics! In Costa Rica they are known as "Mamon Chino" or Chinese Sucker for the way the fruit is eaten and that they are like a lychee fruit from China. The fruits are abundant in Central America.

Open the rambutan by removing part of the skin in any one of several ways. Squeeze the rambutan till the skin breaks. Then peel half the skin off, leaving the other half to hold in your hand like a wrapper. Find a seam running down the top to the bottom of the fruit, and pull apart the leathery skin. You'll find something resembling a peeled grape, but larger, beneath it Alternatively, use a knife to make an incision into the skin, and squeeze the fruit out. Eat around the seed. Avoid biting too close to the seed--you want to avoid the tough, papery skin surrounding it. Some people nibble at the flesh, others pop the whole thing in their mouth and spit out the seed when they're done. Some varieties have bitter seeds; others have sweet seeds, presumably containing negligible amounts of tannins or alkaloids. In the latter case, one can eat the entire fruit, seed and all (but not the outer skin). Try the Universal Edibility Test before consuming the seeds in quantity.

    Tips
•If serving, leave half the skin on after cutting as a decorative holder, such as if serving it as part of a fruit platter.
•The seeds are edible and good for the skin.
•The fruit is not overly sweet, nor sour; it tastes something like a grape.
•They cost 3/Quetzal, or about 4 cents each, at a market in San Pedro la Laguna, Guatemala (as of December 2007). This was one of the varieties with non-bitter seeds. In Costa Rica they cost about

"I'll put the question to you again"

And I'll repeat what I said before. You accuse me of making up "an answer to fit another question", your words, when that's exactly what you are trying to do, and it won't work, you may be stupid enough to fall for a pathetic ruse like that, but I'm not.

If your question has nothing to do with the IRA why are you asking it?

There are NO foreign troops in Northern Island, and never have been.

There are no freedom fighters in Northern Island because they is no-one there who isn't already free.

    There is also no APARTHEID.

The 1922 partition bill created TWO legal and separate states. Recognised by every country in the world, and still recognised.

The IRA are murderous thugs and gangsters, worthy only of a bullet.

2007? Seven years ago, how is that relevant? I want to know the price charged today at Rusty's Market in Cairns.

And what about the discrepancy in Asian airfares, you failed to mention that.

Did you know, for instance, that the airfare from Kuala Lumpur to Chennai varies by as much as 300%, depending on the airline?

    We believe YOU, Rikk.

Ps, Has Rooney returned from his warm weather break /training in Doha yet?

  • Which one is better for gameweek 22: Buy Kun - A.Sissokho or keep Negredo (at 11.41) and buy Zabaleta?

  • Many thx for the update

  • So, everybody and his dog knows we are desperately short of a left back and Bertrand is allowed to slip under our noses to Villa. OK Chelski may have not allowed him to come to Spurs but I doubt that plus Bertrand would not have had to move house so he would probably have preferred coming to us. Are we asleep?

Yeah I'd agree with that. I would always pair Alonso with a monster. Benitez put Masch there so for once I agree with his logic. Sadly I'm a member of the Alonso appreciation society and a sucker for players of this ilk. Those that can sit in the middle between the opposition penalty box and half way line and still look like they have all time in the world. Molby are Xavi are other examples. To me these players are the best that can be. Yes the Ronaldo's and Messi's do the spectacular but they don't dictate or run games. They win games for sure and can turn a result in your favour but they don't command games.

Gerrard on the other hand fits somewhere between the two in my opinion. Not the silky technician that is Alonso but capable but not the out and out monster either. That is part of Gerrard's problem too. He can do many job and that sometimes interferes with those players around him.

I'd be all in favour of a midfield of Gerrard, Henderson and Allen given the choice. Lucas to me is a squad player.

i also agree on your Coutinho comments. The lad needs to learn some composure. He'd be on another level then.

Pity Billy Bremner wasn't still around, he could charge in there and get it sorted.

  • To be able to afford, Suarez, Aguero and Giroud the defense could be a little suspect. But I am banking on a lot of goals from these three.

    .........................Suarez........................ Aguero.........................Giroud.........................

    ...........Ozil.....................Coutinho............................Elmohamady...............Silva............

    .......................Cissokho.....................Baines.........................S. Talyor...............

    ............................................................Krul.....................................................

    Bench........Oxy.............Debuchy...........Kelly.................Elliott
    .
And good news, no Rooney or Van Persie. Come on you Blues.

Native Forest, Organic Exotic Fruit, Rambutan, 14.5 oz Price:

    £4.99
    UK Market price......

I didn't say my question was anything to do with the IRA did I !...I simply put a hypethetical scenario to you, and still you duck the question...I didnt accuse you you of anything..I am saying you ARE making up an answer to fit another question...that isnt an accustaion, Im stating a fact.!

"There are NO foreign troops in Northern Island, and never have been."
English troops are foreign...from mainland ENGLAND and SCOTLAND...Ireland is a different country, with six counties under UK dominace..., therefore ENGLISH and SCOTTISH troops are foreigners. If Six counties in England were patrolled by Irish troops, would that be acceptable ?

"The 1922 partition bill created TWO legal and separate states. Recognised by every country in the world, and still recognised."

Should read...'accepted by Parliamnent, NOT necessarilly the citizens of Ireland' !

Is Korea ONE country ? Is Cyprus ONE country, ? YES of course they are , the partition only exists in these countries because governments and state heads decided it, that is the Turkish and Greek govenments.......in Cyprus...or the Chinese (and Russians) and USA in Korea..The Korean's themselves don't count it seems...
