Still on course to improve on last year.

Herps you're a level head which is good to see on here.

I agree with you that the league should be our litmus test to measure progress or lack there of. Thing is we went on two cup runs last season that may have influenced last seasons total. We also had Luis banned for 8 matches.... and hit the woodwork 350 times.

It could be argued that in the absence of the above challenges this season, scraping a few more points in the league may be at the very least expected as treading water. I agree some good signs have been seen of youth being blooded and the philosophy changing. But the mentality in the players still seems shot to me. Too brittle. That's where we desperately need to see progress IMO....

I am seeing more and more posts from Reds on other forums deploring this guy. He wears the shirt but he discredits it so many times with his antics. Tonight again was no different.

He is an exceptional player. But I find myself disliking him more and more with each unsavoury incident.

You could just see that WBA goal coming couldn't you?

Story of our feckin lives. 20 shots to nil, missed penalty, straight up the other end - goal.

Interesting post iceman.... you must have written it through gritted teeth. Hats off to you.

Jury is still out on Coutinho for me. Often sceptical about players moving from Italy to the EPL. We've had a few duds follow that route and this kid is only young. Hope he proves me wrong.

Agree on Rodgers he needs and deserves trust and time. We're not getting the results we deserve sometimes (that's football) but I can see something good starting to take shape. At the least he's shown more willingness to turn to the kids in big games than Rafa ever did. He doesn't shy away from making those calls which I like.

I hope you stuff the Mancs too.... :-)

Can we really make top 4 this season?

    by Hobitez Feb 4, 2013 11:35
Anyone But United Anyone But United Feb 5, 2013 22:19 Flag

    No we can't IMO.

Not only do we need to go on a run but we need THREE clubs ahead of us in the race to implode a bit as well. If it were just one club we were trying to chase down then maybe our chances would be slightly better.

My tip for 4th is Chelsea. I think Spurs will nick 3rd and Arsenal's world will collapse completely by missing out on their ultimate prize of CL football for the first time in 200 years.....

    Is Brendan allowed a mistake?

Herps I blame the players for that debacle. And a very spirited Oldham side who dug in and defended well.

Jones had a shocker in goal, clearly lacking confidence. Borini anonymous too and our set piece defending appalling. That really is an area that BR needs to address. BR had to rotate with Wednesday in mind and to be honest I was surprised to see Suarez start but in hindsight we needed him.

We still lack creativity, resorting to hopeful long range pit shots too often which usually end up in the stands.

At the end of the day you just have to hand it to Oldham. They earned it......

    Fergie moans......again!!!

    by Gene Hunt Jan 21, 2013 14:22
Anyone But United Anyone But United Jan 22, 2013 01:38 Flag

For all his success, and all his experience in the game at the very top level, I really find some of the stuff Fergie comes out with about officials just mind boggling.

He is STILL banging on about that decisive Drogba goal, conveniently ignoring the other fcuk up by officials in the same game that allowed their blatant goal off the hand to stand. He's so selective with his moans, his recollections, implying here some kind of bias with this linesman against his side. It's a form of bullying that puts Lance Armstrong to shame.

You'd think someone that's enjoyed the longevity of success that he has would relax a bit in his twilight years. Laugh a bit more, take the good with the bad and show a bit of decency on the odd occasion he gets the @rse end of a decision.

    It's just not happening though.

He should go have a beer with Neil Warnock and talk about injustices.....

24 points - not in quality but in squad

    by Colyn Jan 14, 2013 08:49

WTF is Rodgers banging on about with this quote?

24 points diff is due to just having a superior squad WITH quality in depth. You can't separate the two and try and explain it as only one factor or the other.

If Rodgers is trying to suggest our best XI can match United for quality, again I think the evidence just doesn't stack up. This isn't about names on paper, it's about those names pulling together as a team and getting results. United are where they are because they've been doing that better than anyone. We haven't beaten a top half team all season.

We only have a few really high quality players on our roster now. Hardly any game changers or consistent performers. United in comparison..... well sadly there is no comparison

' Need a health warning to watch United '

Oh cry me a river please :-)

Some of you United fans are spoiled brats, impossible to please.

You win 1-0 and you whinge you didn't score enough.

You win 2-1 and the focus is on a lack of clean sheet.

Win 3-2 and the defending was piss poor.

FFS you're 7 points clear and this poor quality season by recent standards is imploding for you. Your team seems to be the only one in the league with a winning mentality. Can't you be thankful for that instead of constantly moaning about how supposedly shyte your team is?

Fans like you create ABUs. Spoiled, whining lil pu55ies who think their side has some kind of right to beat every team before them 5-0 and whinge and moan constantly if it doesn't happen. Don't know the meaning of the word 'support' and wouldn't have the balls to support a club that is REALLY struggling.

United are welcome to fans like you.......

Have to admit with 4th only 4 points away at the moment its very much within reach. Same could be said of course for the other NINE clubs within 4 points of 4th.

What a bonkers season this is evolving into. It really is turning into a massive scrap in the middle half of the table. It can all change in a week its so tight, climbing or dropping half a dozen places depending on other results. Two winnable home games next to hopefully build confidence in the lads...

    64 teams in the CL?????

They're talking about giving the Europa winner a spot in next years CL as a compromise to increase the appeal of it which I think has merit as an idea.

Agree with Butch though it'll just dilute the CL further to a point where the leagues juggling larger fixture lists (England etc) are placed under greater pressure . Clubs will play their reserve sides against lesser opposition to cope..... so you'll really just shift an existing problem from one format to another.

I hope this idea doesn't get legs. The top clubs in Europe will hate it.....

Completely agree with the sentiments here. Couldn't care less that it's Rafa in charge now, the more that side continue to fail to meet Romans expectations, the more inept it makes the owner look as the sacked scapegoats pile up.

You lot have nothing to fear from Chelsea this season I think.....

  • Anyone But United by Anyone But United Dec 1, 2012 21:11 Flag

I know he gave a lot to our club but he's at Chelsea.now which is all that matters to me.

I hope his results continue to pile pressure on himself and his misfiring striker. All it does is make that interfering fkwit owner of theirs look even more clueless and inept. 1 loss and 2 draws - about all it took for RDM to get the sack. Why the double standard with Rafa?

  • Anyone But United by Anyone But United Nov 29, 2012 00:15 Flag

Curious what people think of the latest nutty idea being considered by the geniuses at FIFA.

I can see pros and cons.

One big pro would be spreading more dosh around to more clubs. Could only be good for the development of the game and add a bit of variety to the comp.

I also understand why the football purists might be against the idea, undermining the standard and prestige attached to qualifying and/or lifting it...

    I feel your frustration Jason.

Henderson couldn't hit a cow's a.rse with a banjo. I just don't rate this kid and don't think I ever have. Suarez spurned a few good chances but it's a bit harder to knock our only consistent goal threat these days. You can just never fault his efforts for the shirt.

Recent talk from the club about pushing for the top 4 this season looks laughable. I seriously doubt we'll even make the Europa spots. Buck needs time and there are positive signs of progress in a lot of areas. Just don't look at the league table.

Roman Abramovich is a fking numpty.

He's as fickle as the moronic Uniturd fans calling for Fergies head after they lost a game. Heaven forbid.

I'm with Jason on this one in that I hope Suarez is rested from the start. He's going to be heavily relied upon over the next 6 weeks and I think there are more important games than this one where we'll need his threat.

A lot of teams around us in the league are dropping points giving us good reason to try and press on. Swansea will be tough on their patch and the last thing we need is Luis picking up a knock in a game where the kids should have been blooded more...

Avram Grant has been linked with a vacant manager's position at Sydney FC. Must be desperate.....

  • Anyone But United by Anyone But United Oct 11, 2012 21:48 Flag

.....we are totally fcuked. Fabio has fractured his foot on international duty leaving us with just one recognised striker in Luis for who knows how long.

I know it's been discussed before but what must the owners be thinking watching this club fall into this position? With an absolute plethora of strikers warming the bench down the other end of the M62, it really rings home just how miles away we are from being where we all want to be.

Stevie was right recently when he said it would take a miracle for LFC to win the title during his career. 1 recognised striker. And he's not exactly banging them in week in week out...
