I am not that sure about the analysis, Azpilcueta is a much more attack minded right back so it is actually a tweak in attack rather then a whole hearted assault, great strike from Fernando by the way! Either way, they did recover the 2 goal lead so they kept alive unlike someone else I know.
Against Reading I guess hindsight would suggested maybe slotting JT in might have helped 'see it out' but whilst Reading were pushing forward and commiting bodies maybe the idea is put on a strong forward who can hold the ball up to relieve pressure on the defense to kill it on the counter attack. My assumption is that if you take your centre forward off and bring on a centre half that you will be sitting in your box for the duration, the Reading defenders would have been concerned about Ba.
Obviously it didnt work out but if he had scored for 3-1 then it would have been clever. Fine margins this managerial malarckey. It isn't like Reading havent developed a knack of robbing teams in the last few minutes of late!
I saw that the other day, and you have to say fair play. I think he was really direct that he was blaming the young players for the defeat in the fallout which seemed to leave the experience players on the pitch blameless. That was unfair in itself as the oldest player Brad Jones was the worst just edging out Coates. I think his comment is more of a backtrack on that seeming attack.
I'm not sure that the side wasn't good enough more the blend of the selection, as you say, it is very easy for us to criticise with hindsight, when I saw the line up I thought we would win.
I also agree that we responded well against Arsenal, only problem was that we sat soooooo deep when we had the lead, but if it had worked, it would have been deemed tactically sound, after all Carra was in the line up.
That isnt particularly relevant though really is it?! :)
I imagine that formula would make Roberto Di Matteo the greatest Chelsea Manager of all time! If not, the greatest manager to have ever lived.
I would agree Loki, it has been a success. I thought we needed cover at left back but thought Enrique's injury was longer term. With Carra, Coates and Wisdom as cover and Kelly returning in around a month we should be ok.
This is the toughest remaining fixture of our season so in someways, there is just everything to win here. If we can scrape anything out of the game then I have confidence we can have a good tilt at closing the 4th place gap if not actually make it up. Massive pressure on City to win, it could well be the end of their title hopes for the season, a 10 pt gap would be hard to assail against 'them'.
BR was giving the impression that Coutihno won't be involved for this weekend but Enrique looks to be fit enough to start and I am pretty sure JC will have blown out after a war at the emirates last night so enter Martin Skrtel.
Subs: Jones, Carragher, Wisdom, Shelvey, Allen, Sterling, Borini
Yes I think we should compare at the end of the season but I am certain we will have more points and a better league position this season despite differing financial investment. An increase in points with a younger team can only be seen as taking us forward as far as I can see.
I posted a ode to Kenny when he left, I was probably his biggest fan on here, it really did break my heart to see him go, even still makes me emotional thinking about it! I would never regret the second coming in anyway, he gave us a cup, some great individual wins and moments and lifted us in our darkest hour, he will always be the great one, forget the special one.
But his time to go in hindsight, was completely correct, his idea and philosophy seemed outdated. We started wonderfully then got progressively worse, that is a fact.
I kinda know what your saying mate but Carroll played 35 premier league games last season and scored 4 goals, that is pretty bad even by Heskey standards, this isn't to say I didn't back him or rate him, it is just factual.
Funnily, Suarez has improved his accuracy this season, he has scored 17 goals from 100 shots, still not clinical but pretty impressive when we would consider RVP as ruthless with a 25% conversion rate.
We are still the Beatles mate, it is just I am not sure who is listening to them these days :)

That 2 point buffer felt better then the monster lead I had before I slacked off!
QPR v Norwich 2-1
Wigan v Southampton 1-1
Arsenal v Stoke 3-1
Everton v Villa 2-0
Newcastle v Chelsea 1-2
Reading v Sunderland 2-1
West Ham v Swansea 1-1
Fulham v ManU 1-3
West Brom v Spurs 1-2
Man City v LFC 2-4
I think thats a fair point mate, it is effectively touting, if a player were to come out and say "I love LFC, I am very happy to be here and its one of the top clubs in the world but never say never, it depends what offers I get!", that would be horrendous behaviour. I think its fair to assume that Dan Agger will be pretty put out by the whole affair and I would be suprised if one of our most loyal players now actuallys wants to leave. It was only a year and a bit ago he blasted Torres for jumping ship and then elbowed him in the face the next week at Stamford Bridge!
It seems that Besiktas will accept a £6.5m bid for Quaresma, surely that suggests he could be plucked for £5ish? It goes on to quote that Quaresma is currently earning £57k per week and they are trying to negotiate him down to a Jay Spearing like £30k per week, that would suggest he would probably move on £50k a week, I might be going into a bit of detail on a whimmy transfer but as one of 4 wingers, that would be a good deal for us. 18 goals and 27 assists in 73 matches would have Stewart Downing in fits.
I'm not going to cry for Rafa back just yet, although I was against his sacking originally, in fact, I was against Kennys too.....not Woys though!
I have to say, I appreciate the honesty of Brendan in interviews, it is an upgrade on Benitez' politician, Hodgeson defeatism and Kennys bizarre arguments with any question ever asked. I read it a couple of ways really, for me, the undisputed Kings of the Kop are Reina, Skrtel, Lucas, Gerrard and Suarez, that is the spine of the side and no bid should even be considered for any of them. We were quick to tie up our best player and without doubt our most valuable player so I dont think that insists we are a selling club.
Dan Agger's true transfer value is probably more like £14m, it would be strange not to consider a £20m+ bid for a player who has been unfit for more then half of his LFC career. There is a strong argument that a player of slightly less ability who can be on the pitch every week will be less of a luxury and better equipped to help us be consistent week in, week out. Please dont confuse this as an avocation to sell, as an injury prone, left footed centre back myself, he is one of my favourites!
It is a painful summer so far, watching old favourites being disected from the squad but we could end up with enough to buy Subotic, Hummels, Chiellini or Collocini whilst taking a city player in part ex.
Whilst on the subject of part ex's, Adebayor, Adam Johnson, and John Guidetti could each improve our team significantly whilst players such as Dzeko, De Jong, Kolarov, Richards or even Santa Cruz could provide interesing.
At last I have overcome Spursbabes away goals! Next up, Team America!
Arsenal v Chelsea 2-1
Newcastle v Stoke 2-1
Fulham v Wigan 2-2
Bolton v Swansea 1-1
Blackburn v Norwich 2-2
Villa v Sunderland 0-0
QPR v Spurs 1-2
ManU v Everton 2-0
Liverpool v West Brom 3-1
Wolves v ManCity 1-3
Villa v Bolton 1-1
Yep Pepe is definitely back. Enrique I believe was rested from fatigue, im sure he kinda wanted to play Carra for experience and partially as an emotional element. I agree that we are very likely to see Henderson in for Bellamy and probably Downing for Maxi. Which is sad but whatever....:)
'Not even the best team in Liverpool' is what I had been hearing all week :)
After another delightful day out at Wembley we have something to look forward to at the end of the season. Now its back to solving our league form, 2 wins on the spin and undefeated in 3 isnt normally something to brag about but its an improvement on a shocking couple of months!
I wonder if Woy ever thinks about signing Poulsen and Konchesky for the Albion? I doubt it!
Seems most of our short term injury troubles are over so hopefully a decent squad to select from.
Subs: Jones, Carragher, Coates, Kelly, Kuyt, Downing, Henderson
The King of Wembley they call him! Incidently, Liverpool have also won every game they have EVER played at the new Wembley :)
The league encounter in a couple of weeks will have some real added spice. I dont really know what has happened to Spurs since the Redknapp/England rumours started but they seem ever so flakey.
Most of us would have picked a Chelsea final over Spurs due to the recent record against both teams. That pace of Bale is scary, Modric just finds Jay Spearing hilarious, Van Der Vaart does whatever he wants whenever he wants but Chelsea are much more a team we are suited to play against. They are bang in form at the moment, getting results out of just about anywhere so it will be a very tough tie. I fancy Suarez and Carroll causing massive problems to the Chelsea defence and Bellamy always seems to do well against them too.
This one is for our resident Chelsea fan Robert!
Pathetic behaviour from a section of the Chelsea support should hot up the atmosphere in the Cup final, and in the coming league match.
I think you will like this one, its kinda what we are all trying to say!
