    AVB - Lucky or good...or bad...or

    by Jlock May 5, 2013 09:11

I agree, we haven't played well for quiet some time IMO.

Sadly I think SB might be right, I think it will be extremely hard for us to finish in the top 4, especially as we are currently losing 2-1 to the chavs. From 11th down its as tight as a ducks arze, but I do agree, I think Wigan will drop. I'd also put money on Martinez being the next Everton manager if Moyes does go to United.

Did either of you expect us to be doing much better this season? When all is taken into account I think we have over achieved all season and I seem to remember most of us agreed 4-7th would be a very closely fought battle, in which we would have to do extremely well to finish 4th. IMO there has been a lot of upheavel and a worrying trend of failing to invest

It seems unless Joe Lewis decides to throw his cash about or sell the club to some oil baron, we will always struggle to compete witht he big boys, that said its 2-2.

    SB,

I agree regarding Davies and Shaw, IMO Shaw would suit our style better. So you'd like to see Baines and Moyes come in? Do you think we could get Baines? I have always liked Moyes and admire what he has done at Everton, however I know many Everton fans who feel he is overly negative, Everton were not nice to watch v woolich and I think we might find his approach undesirable. Would you settle for boring, unattractive football if we consistently got top 4?

I hope you enjoed the game today, one hell of a game!

    Sfer,

Your feelings about BAE are well documented and I partially agree with some of your views, actually I think he's a decent LB and I'm not sure we could do a lot better. However if he leaves, who would you like to see us sign? I'd like us to firstly give Naughton or Rose a go, or sell them or look at Luke Shaw of Southampton, I'd like to suggest Baines, but IMO we couldn't get him.

    I completely agree Sfer,

Judging a player after 3.5 months and not even a hand full of starts is crazy! Surely as Spurs supporters we have a better understanding than most? Bale was on his way for a mil, now look at him!

Nice to see you contribute Sfer! you have been missed.

    Its not JL,

Any manager or player worth their salt wants to progress as far as possible in every competition they're in, they may feel winning the EPL is beyond them, but coming out with such a statement at the start of a season or campaign just wouldn't happen, because no professional would do such a thing and if they did, they would be rightly lambasted.

But, you have contradicted SB, which means by default you are wrong, because she is always right about everything and even when you think she might not be, your wrong.

I seem to remember most of us felt that top 4 would be a huge achievement and that the battle for 5-7 would be closely fought, most of us even got the teams involved spot on.

When everything is taken into account, I think we are over achieving.

    What?

AVB has used many of the same players, however if he did use a broader selection, he'll be criticised byt he likes of SB of using players who aren't good enough. There was a small exodus in the summer and we have been in a situation where Livermore and Carroll have been needed. On a positive they have been exposed to some much needed first team football and at times the like of Carroll have looked like decent players for the future.

Our squad probably isn't deep enough, I think many Spurs supporters would agree with that. We lost 3 of our most influential players in the last year, most clubs would be in a far worse situation if they had suffered the same loses.

At the start of the season, there was a general consensus that top four would be a great achievement when everything has been atken into account, 4th 5th or 6th would be very closely fought.

Has the season been ruined? really? huge changes to the club and AVB keeps us in the top 4 for the vast majority of the season. 'Ruined'.......really, some fans don't know how good we have it! they be better off as glory supporters if thats their opinion.

What?- I suspect you are another multi ID troll, which means your comments and views are almost entirely irrellevant, yet I find it in my huge Yiddish heart to indulge you, well someone has too. Arsenal have vastly more wealth than our beloved Spurs, Wenger or someone at your board has decided you will not compete financially, rather than cannot, should Arsenal fans expect more than they are currently getting? yes IMO, but thats for another day. Whilst you continue to invest so little in your team, you will continue to struggle to compete for the title or the CL, sadly there is a direct correllation!

But you do raise a good point, Wenger has put virtually all his eggs into the CL top 4 basket, where has it got you? regular qualification for a competition you cannot win, a huge bank balance and your best players leaving year on year, well done! It highlights that regular top 4 football doesn't necessarily mean you keep your best players.

We do not have the finances to compete on either front and to win either would take numerous players to play extraordinarily well and for us to remain almost entirely injury free, which whilst is incredibly unlikely. But as supporters (a much better description NBR) we cannot initiate any change, no matter how much should have, could have, I would have, the likes of SB spew in her usual world ending, club liquidating style.

So where would we be if we adopted SB's eggs all in one basket approach? The club decides to prioritise one competition, we have a tough CL and are out at the group stages, in the mean time we have dropped too far down the EPL to compete for top 4! then what? putting all your eggs in one basket is rarely seen as a good thing, so why would you advocate it SB, where has it got ther goons?

You claim to want the best for the future of the club, yet you put retaining one individual as the very top priority. Bale is 1 player, currently he is an exceptionally good player (once you were claiming he should be sold) but he is one man and it is entirely likely he will leave us one day, what then? Bale got a chance because BAE had a prolonged injury, he came in at LB and flourished, so why is it so implauible for another player to step up!

Really SB, NBR and I are the egotistical ones, when you believe your approach would have the following results:

'achieved top 4. kept out best players & attracted more top players. build from there.'

Wow! why havent you gone into football management or politics, if everything you suggest is so accurate so consistantly, you could make a real difference. What were your commenst re Defoe a few weks back? something along ther he'll definitely get 20+ goals! are you still so sure?!

How does my positive approach towards the way I support my club prove I have a huge ego? surely your approach of always appearing to know best demonstrates a much more egocentric approach than NBR's and mine? Do you ever wonder why you seem to be someone who regularly clashes with other contributors? no? so its always everyone else all the time! The predicition league is a bit of fun SB, nothing more, please don't go thinking its a reflection on our footbaling knowledge or interlect in general.

    An interesting set of subjects,

You are poisonously negative SB! where would OUR (clearly not your) beloved club be if everyone adopted your approach?

So, we throw all our eggs into one basket, the EPL basket! forget the domestic cups and put out a tottenham 11 in the Ropey League, throw everything at the EPL, where we are attempting to compete with clubs with vastly bigger budgets and more resource. Your approach would see us unlikely to win anything ever again, at least it would suit you and your doom at every corner outlook! Have you ever thought about writing a column for the Daily Mail, their readershit would enjoy your end is nigh approach to the world.

How about you make at least one positive comment in every post, and if you cant recognise them, you aren't a fan, your a novice critic- BORE OFF!

    Wrong!

Holtby is a superb player, he didn't play well yesterday, but he has only been in the league for 3 months and is yet to recieve a first team run, so you'd be advised to reserve judgement.

Holtby will be amongst our best 5 players next season, you mark my words!

Lady and Gents, Sadley I have to agree with you,

I think the Chavs will take 3rd witht he goons taking 4th.

IMO if we fail to finish 4th it will not bedue to AVB, although if he tries too many more fanciful lineups, he will certainly have to take some of the blame. I think JL is right, bar the Fulham game we haven't played badly, yet the results haven't come. If we fail to get top 4, I think Levy will need to take a look at himself, as he has prevented a couple of signings.

    Lets hope not hey!

I'm yet to see any of the coverage from todays game. From what I've heard we played well at times, but seemed completely toothless and seemingly relied on an attempted worldie's from Bale!

Fingers crossed the results start to go our way soon!

  • Well done SB, sadly you were much closer than the rest of us with you last prediction.

I suspect this second leg will be a much tougher challenge for us, not least because Bale and Lennon are both out. Is Ade currently injured? I think he had a knee injury. I believe Dempsey is also unfit for this game, leaving our midfield/attacking options limited at best.

    I'd go with:

    Lloris

    Walker Caulker Vertonghen Naughton

    Livermore Parker

    Gylfie Dembele Holty

    Defoe

Gylfie, Dembele and Holtby would be fluid behind Defoe. Although I'm not convinced by Livermore yet, in the first leg they couldn't cope with Dembele or Parker in midfield, so Livermores physicality should/could be useful.

I suspect AVB will go with Friedel and BAE not Naughton and Lloris

    SB=35-
    Remmah=31-
    joe=31- 2-1 Gylfie

We need to bounce back from the Liverpoo game, the San Siro is not the easiest of places to go and get a result, despite Inter's relatively poor form we will need to be on our game to get a win.

How on earth did we lose that?....

    by Jlock Mar 11, 2013 07:17

Some really interesting points made here,

I agree with JL, I think we handed them the game, Walker and Defoe made mistakes which ultimiately cost us the game. Sadly its not the first time this season Walker has been questionable, it opens up a debate on the England righback because IMO Walker and Johnson were both poor.... Jenkinson?

I agree with Rem, re Livermore and Carroll, neither is currently of the calibre needed to face the likes of Gerrard, who IMO was lucky to be on the pitch to take the Pen. The challenge he made on Bale(may have been Gylfi) as we broke from a Liverpool corner was calculated and tactical, I have seen many of those get yellow cards, the second was the elbow on Bale, no attempt for the ball at all. BAE's challenge on Suarez was a pen, although he made the most of it!

I also thought Suarez was very lucky to finish the game, he's guilty of multiple fouls throughout the game and despite is ability, he's a nasty piece of work!

I am concerned at how we will react to this defeat, this could be a warning, which everyone will learn alot form, however it could be the turning point, which see's our form and results plummet. We will now see what the players are made of and what AVB can do to keep focus!

Who is the best CB in the league right now? IMO Vertonghen must be right up there!

Doom and gloom ey SB?! wow!

We have had a good record at Anfield for at least the last 3 seasons and speak to any Liverpool fan, we have become something of a bogey team for the pool.

The european game could go against us, but for players like Bale the more games the better, in this type of form, he'll want to play every day. Bale and Suarez are both of exceptional quality, after those two, we have better players more likely to producing something special or am I just biased? H and Fab (as nuterals) you may be able to answer that better.

An injustice? ha ha ha, you are quiet hilarious SB, this is supposed to be fun....a laugh! Rem and I have even missed the odd week, maintained a more positive (unrealistic IYO), jovial approach to this yet, we are separated by 2 points! Chill SB, its not like we've put anything on it! Just enjoy it for what it is......a bit of fun.

  • I think our attacking potency will be too much for the Liverpool back four!

If we keep Suarez quiet they will have little else, dependinmg on which Coutinho turns up, he looks a quality little player BTW.

A repeat of the Inter performance and result would be wonderful!

Also, how close are these scores? 2 points in it after all these games?! wow!

Yahoo seem to be intent on destorying this board, so I have had to reply in this way.

The first 10 days have been a real experience, amazing but more exhausting than living in a perpetual derby match.

SB, thanks for the links, I have a baby grow on its way and some rather fetching branded baby shoes!

Fab, I will be here to ensure my dear little boy is not subjected or tempted by the likes of you or his mischevious Unkles, who have already bought his a gooner baby bottle, which has found its way intot he neighbours rabbit hutch as a water dispenser.

    Thank You, all of you.

I am genuinely touched by your comments!

Lets hope Dexter continues to bring us good luck and we breeze past Inter and the Pool, not going to be easy games, but I am ever optomistic about our chnaces! Lets hope Ade puts in a performance akin to the one we witnessed at Newcastle last season! I recorded the NLD, so in years to come I can show him the first game we ever watched together went the right way, the lily white way!

    Huge Love x x x
