Nice sentiments that I can share Neville. If you mean "I'd have broken every bone in my body for any of the Clubs I played for, but I'd have died for Everton" I got to agree with you Nev. Its priceless and worthy of the highest accolade. They don't make players like that anymore I'm afraid, more the pity. Davie was something special! I'm not a Bluenose......(of the other persuasion I'm afraid!) but we were fortunate to have Davie's services for a couple of seasons and his goals/games average for us was top-notch. I still remember seeing his first game for the Reds at Anfield against Aston Villa. Villa were top of the table and got promoted that year but Davie cracked in two and we ran out 2-1 winners.....great memories, God Bless him!

    Transfer Funds

Your middle paragraph hits the nail firmly on the head. I just hope that LFCs Owners take sufficient note of this, you have to speculate to accumulate. "..... trying to find gold nuggets in the gravel" is an absolute descriptive gem of a phrase and paints the real picture of what we are up against.

If its just our new, and current players you want to see on show and doing their stuff and working out in a pre-season "pipe-opener" then its a great pity we cant go back to the format they had in the 1950's..........Posibles versus Probables at Anfield and just a threepenny joey to get into the ground. Ah.......sigh.......them were the days.............Could be a "Business Opportunity" and good publicity!

Afraid I see this as a sprat to catch a mackerel, the sprat being Xabi and the mackerel being Luis Suarez. A Real ploy to set the 2 Clubs talking turkey. Hey LFC, how about £30M plus Xabi for Suarez? No way Jose, I'd sooner hang on to Luis thank you very much, however sweet Xabi used to be. Just how many midfielders do we need anyway?

Hey Colin, maybe it was £34M plus David Luiz and Nando Torres cos that may just about come near to the true worth of Luis Suarez both to Liverpool or to any other Club that comes calling for him. I personally don't think he'll go to any other Club in the UK and is very likely to stay one more season with us. I know he'd like Real Madrid but they are cheapskates and wont pay anything like his real worth. Steve MacMannaman for nix and Michael Owen for a derisory £8M are the deals they look for. On the theme of selling too cheap I notice now, that not only are we just getting buttons for Jonjo Shelvey but Charlton Athletic are going to get a top slice of that too. FFS I think our current crop of Administrators must have been last in the queue when the Business Acumen Heads were given out. No wonder that we're always crying poverty. What happened to the FSG moneyball concept?

    by benjamin Jul 3, 2013 21:30

David, I think that my main gripe here is that we seem to have a habit of selling for a pittance but continually getting screwed way over the odds when we go out to buy someone, Jonjo goes for £5M but we buy Joe Allen for £16M,..........£11M difference if you catch my drift. Its not realistic. I know we have opinionated previously about a players Cost and Value plus Wages bills etc but this don't make much sense to me at all. I feel very grumpy about this state of affairs!

£5m for Shelvey???? Someones havin a laff here. Are we running a bargain Basement? The guy is an England player and has performed very creditably in the EPL and compared with some of the other "deals" going down he must be worth at least £8m FFS

I'll drink to that Paddy! I'm beginning to feel we beginning to get the makings of a half decent squad together now. Maybe a couple of defensive additions will help, and I think Luis could stay with us another season after all. New Manager wobbles maybe at Man U, Citeh, Chelski and Everton could give us a glim of a top 4 finish. I looking forward to the new season already!

To talk of letting Coates go just now would seem eminently sensible.....not. It smacks of the sort of hole we got ourselves into last year having to go half a season with a depleted strike force. No Carra, Skrtel staying questionable, Dan Agger bad back injury record, Martin Kelly seeming injury prone too, Kolo Toure lack of playing time for the past 2 years, and I am not yet convinced that the guy wont make good. He has good feet but needs to learn to throw his weight about a bit more and get a physical presence.

    Did We Break the Bank?!?

    by Jason Jul 1, 2013 15:41

With all the midfielders we've been picking up, I just wish we could also pick up just one decent centre-back. I also feel that the pick of those we have recently signed up will prove to be the Goalie

Hey Colin, a Big Ron Yeatsie look alike would be great; good in the air, fair turn of speed and telescopic legs. But do they still make them like that? I still feel that Coates could be a decent player if they'd give him an extended run and feed a little bit more possitive aggression into him cos he don't seem "nasty enough". Never a Yeatsie but maybe a bit of Laurenson/Hanson? On the other score, I do like the look of Mignolet though. The lad has had a real baptism of fire at Sunderland and come through good. I a bit surprised that Mr Wenger didn't go for him but I think his loss will be our gain.

Being a cynic, the best chance that Brendan has of "getting off to a good start" is to hang on to all the decent players that began to show through late in the latter half of last season and buy a handfull more decent players to compliment and build on what he has got. I was quite hopeful of us making some good deals in the Transfer Window but the Aspas paperwork nonsence has given me a bit of a "downer" I'm afraid.

    He Wants Madrid, but..

    by Jason Jun 18, 2013 00:39

Hey Armchair, I dont think Luis is annoyed with LFC at all. In among all this Press fermented Hubble-Bubble I note that he consistently refers to the fact that he has a Contract with LFC which is something. I still believe he will honour that Contract unlike some in recent times who have worn the Red jersey with scant regard; like Mascerano who refused to turn out in a Prem League match against Man City cos he wanted away to Barcelona; like Steve Macmanaman, a son of this City of Liverpool who deliberately ran down his Contract with Liverpool and went to Real for nix; similarly St Michael Owen who left with just one year left on his Contract for the Princly sum of £8M. At least Luis Suarez signed a new Contract last year that will ensure that we as a Club will get full and proper measure of the lads full worth if he leaves, rather than the peanuts we got for others mentioned. I know that apart from being a brilliant footballer, the lad has anger management issues which really need helping but I can understand his feelings about the treatment he has consistently received from the so called and self proclaimed "great and good" of the English Sporting Press who have done their unremitting utmost to hound him out of English Football aided and abetted by the Kangaroo Courts appointed by the inconsistent clowns at the FA. A reviled "diver" singled out for special treatment when many other big names are doing the same to "win" a pen or a free kick, a "supposed racist" for calling a Black man Black ????FFS and a "Biter" who leaves no bite mark that the Police could find. I well remember just after that incident when Roberto Mancini was asked for his comment by one of our paragons of the Press, his reply was "what do you want to do, kill the man? That basically puts it in a nut shell for me and I can understand why Suarez would like to get out of English Football for the sake of his family as much as himself. Respect!

    Aspas, really?

    by benjamin Jun 14, 2013 22:40

Agree with you wholeheartedly Colin. Ayre is not "fit for purpose". He has made a complete balls of this issue and has previously spouted negative #$%$ when talking down our prospects for next season. I think rather than #$%$ arround with the Aspas "non transfer" we should just bin it now and walk away from the whole sorry mess.

But Mr Ian Ayre, we supporters are looking forward to next season with a reasonably eager expectation of further progress to the very promissing improvements made by the Club in terms of playing staff quality and style of performance on the field of play particularly as demonstrated during the latter half of the last season. If these improvements can be maintained and sustained, then a top four finish would seem to be quite manageable. England and LFC expects!

If we really have to be "retro" I dunno why we cant go back to Red shirts with white flappy collars, white shorts to the knee with a Red stripe down the side seams and Red and White hooped socks up to the knee. And a proper Red colour too, not this turgid orangy red parody we are currently stuck with. I saw a guy in front of me at the tills in Tesco wearing one of these shirts and I felt like puking its so awful when you are up close, at least the distance between the stands and the pitch makes it only appear half as bad. And change strip to be white shirts, black flappy collars, black shorts and black and white hooped socks. All 1950's sensible stuff and you dont need any more 3rd or 4th change strip, thats only a ploy to fleece kids and their parents. Once upon a time we were the peoples Club and we didnt need to keep spouting it ad nausium like the "other lot". Lets get back to something we can all identify with please!

25% sell on fee for Carrol!

    by Loki May 22, 2013 18:25

errrrrrr? What has Ince got to do with it, or am I missing something here? If its Carroll we are talking about and there is truth in the Newcastle sell on fee, Id sooner hang on to him and just loan him out next year. Surely they cant expect a fee for negative equity?

TRUE fans go to the Match

    by Seanicemanreturns May 15, 2013 16:53

I been going since 1949. In my 20's and 30's it was virtually every Home game and as many away as I could afford. I even been to Goodison Park too.....but only when we played there! Admittedly its not so often these days but what point are you seeking to make???? Curious? I'm also curious to know which particular live game it was that you attended?
