  • Sorry lads, I've been a bit in limbo lately, with some things to tend to, but I see I haven't missed too much, aside from what I presume are follow ups on our supposed Konoplyanka failure.. Oh well.. Over and done with. Sterling is really playing great, Coutinho seems to show up in the big games, Suarez and Sturridge (WBA aside) are thriving in the new/true 4-3-3, popping up everywhere, and we're getting bodies back defensively..

That said, because of the 2 points dropped at WBA, which obviously could have been dusted with another goal, and avoidance of a terrible error by both Mignolet for the distribution, and Kolo for the pass, this has put IMMENSE pressure on the Arsenal match..

I guess, it should never be said there's not pressure on this fixture, and especially with our impeccable home record and showings, but, is this truly our biggest game since 2008/2009? I know it won't be the decider, esp since Villa/WBA could have sent us flying, BUT I don't think I was out of diapers the last time we beat the Goons at Anfield, and surprisingly, aside from the back to back at City / Chelski & destruction of Evt., we've not shown a 110% all around vs a team we need to..

The pics at Melwood suggest the boys were having fun, and a blast, which does speak volumes to me because I really think they believe in themselves and Rodgers, so it gives me great confidence, rather than stone faces and uptight, but will it translate at Anfield? I never make predictions, so not even giving my gut feeling for being superstitious.. Curious on your thoughts, if you're still reading..

    January Transfers

I've heard similar after a cuffuffle over wages and some pretty crazy wage demands of over £100k per week. I've also heard wages going from £60k per week to £95k per week.

I'll admit I'm not sure on this one. Yes he can be good on his day but I'm also a bit nervous of Eastern Europeans moving to the PL. There's been more than a few that simply haven't settled or worked. We'll see I guess.

Won't happen, he just scored a hattrick midweek for Barcelona in their cup match, and 2 assists yesterday. They'll give him just enough PT to satisfy him until the summer, then the dogs will fight it out..

Seems it's Konoplyanka or bust.. media says 5.5 year deal agreed, Rodgers said nothing. Even he and his father have said it's done.. Ayre missing in action riding his motorcycle somewhere in Kiev..

How to Line Up vs Everton

he caught my eye last year when watching the Ukraine play. he looked atypical winger to me in that sometimes you're not sure what's going to turn up. The brilliant one or the loose cannon.

    We'll see I guess.

How to Line Up vs Everton

    by Jason Jan 27, 2014 17:55

Well, that was bang on as far as lineup and performance! I didn't imagine that scoreline in my wildest dreams, and I'd say it was at least equal to, if not better than our performance at Spuds. I might only say better because we didn't have Allen or Lucas here, and Gerrard/Henderson were immense in the defensive midfield, and Kolo really played well next to Skrtel for once.

Now that we've got ourselves sorted with this existing crop of players, and in this 4-3-3 interchangeable lineup, where you can't even tell who's playing wide or central, we need to take this performance right on the bus to West Brom, grab another 3 points, and coming flying high into Anfield vs Arsenal, who we haven't beaten at home probably since before I was born..

IF, we can bag 6/6, we've got some favorable fixtures to come afterwards, and can really push on to 3rd spot, especially if you look at Arsenal's murder that is a schedule in Feb..

And Mr. Konoplyanka seems to be our main, and likely target as of every source on god's green earth, 15M.. Until Chelsea or Spurs offer 16M, and a10k more in wages. He is dynamite as far as pace, dribbling and finishing. Let's see..

How to Line Up vs Everton

    by Jason Jan 27, 2014 17:55

Hi Jason my only changes depend solely on the fitness of Allen and Flannagan. If Flanners is fully fit he plays at the expense of Kelly or Cissokho. Allen is the more difficult one but I'd give some thought to Allen and Henderson deeper and Gerrard further forward. Tough call that one but I don't see Coutinho playing that well at the moment and I fear that Barry will dominate him.

Tough call apart from full back!

  • We really don't have too many options with all of the injuries at this point, although they have quite a fare share too, but ironically a bigger/deeper squad than us. Just goes to show how pathetic Ayre is at his job, and how embarrassed I am by FSG, after the endorsements / belief I've given them. Hopefully you won't hold it against me, and know if I was owner, I'd literally put every last dime into the club..

    Anyways..

Damned If I know what to do at the fullback spot, but I'll give it this guess, and make this choice only because Oviedo is out, and I think Coleman is doubtful, causing less trouble on that side.

    -----------------Migs------------------
    Flanny---Skrtel--Toure---Cissokho
    ------Gerrard--Henderson--------
    -------------Coutinho---------------
    Sterling---Sturridge---Suarez

Jones, Moses, Alberto, Aspas, Sama, Allen, Kelly

I'd want this to shape up like a very, very disciplined 4-3-3 with both Gerrard and Henderson shielding the back 4, and choosing spots carefully to roam, with Coutinho dropping to pick the ball up, and run with it, or spray it wide, OR a very tight 4-2-3-1, which based on what I said above is basically the same, only more suited for the counter. I'm not really sure BR trusts Kelly for some reason, and Cissokho isn't very good, so I know Flannagan will be in there somewhere.

As for the bench, we're without Agger, Sakho, Enrique and Glenda, so Sama, Smith & Rossiter are the only other choices I'm aware of besides Kelly or Cissokho to be on the bench, and while I want to see Ibe in there, Allen doesn't seem fit to start, so he gets on the bench with us having enough offense.

Ya know, I look at the team, and aside from not being in love with Kolo and our back 4 as a whole, and I think, jeez, that starting front 6, really isn't anything to sneeze at, especially if they click on all cylinders, yet, we all have this sinking feeling. It's hard to explain, but this is huge, and we need 11 hero's tomorrow, and 10/10 from everyone!

Our First (maybe) & Last Signing ?

    by Jason Jan 26, 2014 17:19

I don't think it's not us being an attractive club at all.. People can see we've been on the up for 2 years now, especially since last January with Rodgers style really shaping, and our start to this season, where we've amassed enough points over 38 to be a CL qualifying team, not to mention our absurd amount of goals scored, ahead of Man City. Plus the form of Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho (who's in a slump).

Salah wanted to come, Willian wanted to come, Costa seemed interested, and so did Mkhitarayan.. it all came down to the reluctance to either pay that extra 3-4-5M in the buy fee, or match 100K + wages these guys want.

On another note, we have confirmed our second official signing of the window, after Dunkin Donuts, in Airlines Garuda Indonesia as our official training partner.

Hi Loki. The other point is, even if we get top four, it only makes any difference if the club use the opportunity to invest to stay in it. If our top target this window was £10m - what does that say?

This proves that we're not an attractive club to players any more. How many times have we been gazumped by other clubs?

I really fear for our top 4 chances because I think squad size is really going to play a massive part in the next 4 months. Spurs have the man power that we don't............if we dont get top four, we are totally fooked for the next few years at least!

Our First (maybe) & Last Signing ?

    by Jason Jan 26, 2014 17:19

    Hi Jason

Well that cheered me up - needed a laugh.

Seriously though, we're missing too many of our top targets for this to not highlight a problem somewhere along the line (either money or in our ability to close deals). Was listening to TAW the other day discussing the same thing. They raised a good point - if we value our number one target, the one that we hope will drive us forward, at £10m and not a penny more ... what does that say about our ambition.

I've got a horrible feeling that we're asking BR to get 4th with both arms tied behind his back and that the result will be a 7th place finish.

    God would that be depressing.

  • I hate to be harsh on the Dunkin Donuts mascot, especially since he was announced weeks ago, and took pictures under the "This is Anfield SIgn", but he's not really settled well, and hasn't yet fit the profile of the player we're looking for.

After failing to sign a player, who by his own admission, desperately wanted to come to LFC, and offering 10M, only to have Chelsea offer 12M for Basel to accept, Rodgers should really just considering stepping down.. I would. He and his scouts spent the better part of 3 months scouting Mohammed Salah, and yet again, near the deadline, we've failed to get a top target..

Anyways, I'm not going to cry myself to sleep because now Salah, will understand what wood feels like as he watches Hazard, Willian, Oscar, Schurrle, Ramires all play, as Jose simply used him as a pawn to show another of his "children" who's the boss (AVB / Willian).. The sounds are sounding very strongly that we have, or will agree to Saul Niguez of Atletico Madrid via Rayo Vallecano.

All I know is that he's a bigger, stronger, more cultured version of Suso, and going 19, considered one of Spain's biggest prospects. He seems like he's a link man from our deep midfield to our forward 1/3. That said, nothing's been made official, and I'm sure whatever Vayo/Atletico are asking for, surely means we'll offer 3-4M less, and Spurs will sign him on Friday.

Maybe we can get it right, and put in a cheeky offer to re-sign Carlsberg and Crown Paints?

    Right Back

    by Paddy Jan 12, 2014 17:01

Just heard that Johnson is injured and has been for a while. No timescale is given for his recovery. I suppose it explains a few things. Lucas is also out for 2 months with a medial ligament injury.

My largest concern has been our lack of movement in the transfer window. We will miss out on Salah and I think we seriously need some new blood or top 4 can go bye bye.

Worrying development in that Chelsea have also started showing an interest in Salah. Have we dilly dallied again and missed the deal? I hope not as it's not the first time by any distance and it's an issue that needs to be addressed

    Suarez

    by Paddy Jan 20, 2014 08:20

The biggest thing about Suarez (well there are several), is that Guzan came flying out and on the ground, while Suarez rounded him, but then never had anywhere to go. Guzan could not get out of the way, and did NOT try to get the ball, NOR did Suarez really drag a foot. Being objective, I could say, and many would agree I think, it was soft, but considering the ref was looking from behind, and the sidejudge had to view it at full speed, so in addition to being in the way, and some contact, it was always a pk..

Just think of the amount of times Ashley Young, Januzaj, Oscar, and a few others, have ridiculously dived, and / or dragged a foot, and gotten the call.. They make Suarez looking like a school boy, aside from the media's non stop picking on him. Had he scored a wonder goal (he had a terrible game), it would barely be a talking point, and even Sterling's the week before may have been softer, though a penalty as well..

    Hello all

I hear the Salah rumour is gaining more momentum. Welcome addition but I'd rather see a real marquee signing in the middle of the park.

I'd also like to see us signing a boot. A big boot of at least size 15. So one or two players can be booted where the sun don't shine. Johnson perhaps................................................

    Suarez

I thought it was a penalty first time I saw it and still think the same. The keeper caught him, simples. You can also tell the way he went down.

As for foul play I thought the two tackles in the United, Chelsea game were far worse. Vidic was deliberate and cynical. while the other was just down right wrong and deserved red every day of the week.

  • I apologise for this post in advance - I know this is nothing new but wanted to post it to get it off my chest.

The narrative in the british media around LS has been unbelievable. All of the ex-footballers I've listened to say it was a nail on penalty. The numerous replays I have seen clearly show the keeper missing the ball and catching Suarez. Even Lambert couldn't hide his smile when the reporter, after listening to him say that he didn't think it was a pen, asked him if he would have been disappointed had it not been given at the other end. He didn't answer the question.

And yet the headlines are as if Suarez and bitten, racially abused and dived all at the same time. The Sunday Supplement have just had a discussion where one journalist starts by saying there was no contact and therefore it was a dive. When the other three journalists point out there was contact and it was a penalty, you think that might change the direction of the discussion. Of course not. We go on to hear that we shouldn't be too harsh on Suarez because this "dive" wasn't as bad as some of "his" others. Even, most graciously, that Bacuna rolling around on the floor clutching his face trying to get Sturridge sent off might, arguably, be as bad as Suarez "winning" the penalty.

Let me write that again. A player play acting to get a fellow player sent off might (just might mind you) arguably (of course there's some doubt) be as bad as Suarez being fouled and given a penalty!?

Of course all last season we heard that Bale was unlucky to be booked 7 times for diving. That the slightest touch is enough to bring down the modern professional footballer travelling at speed. Oh, and wasn't it funny when that nice Mr Neville fell over with no one anywhere near him.

The media witch-hunt will continue until Suarez has left the country.

    Sorry rant over.
