Live Commentary

  1. - Thanks for joining us today - we'll be back for Japan next month. 2012 calendar.

  2. 0' Pedrosa wins the Aragon Grand Prix from Lorenzo, and a sprint to the line sees Dovizioso pip Crutchlow for third! Spies fifth, Bautista sixth. Rea and Rossi follow, well done Rossi given he almost crashed out and was back in 20th. Hayden, Bradl and Salom fail to finish.

  3. 0' Contact as Crutchlow almost passes Dovizioso! But the Italian holds on!

  4. 1' Going into the last lap and Crutchlow is trying to get closer to Dovizioso but can't quite find the space. He's right on his tail but good defence from the Italian - Crutchlow moves on the inside but Dovizioso shuts the door again. Fabulous battle.

  5. 2' Crutchlow tries to pass Dovizioso but, going on the outside, ends up losing time on the Italian, who holds on to third. This could get scrappy.

  6. 3' Crutchlow is looking to make his move but Dovizioso is a canny operator and isn't giving him a sniff.

  7. 4' Dovizioso rises to Crutchlow's challenge to put in one of his faster laps. This will be a good little tussle into the finish. Pedrosa, meanwhile, leads Lorenzo by 6s or so now as he looks to lay a marker for the final four races of an intriguing title fight.

  8. 5' Crutchlow has a dig at Dovizioso now, he's getting quicker by the lap and I can see him snatching a podium again. He sat tight after cementing a three-way fight for third and is ready to move.

  9. 6' Now Spies is going backwards, he's behind Crutchlow and is fifth. The Briton is gaining speed when it counts too, so he can really pressurise Dovizioso.

  10. 7' A nice five-second gap on Lorenzo for Pedrosa now, there's still time but I can't see any change there. However, the scrap for third is still very much on, 0.3s separating Spies, Doviziso and Crutchlow. Nothing in that. Sixth-placed Bautista is 12s off them.

  11. 8' Hayden is officially declared unhurt by the medical centre. Good news.

  12. 9' This podium fight is a cracker, as Spies responds to Dovizioso on the inside but the Italian holds him off! Crutchlow waiting in fifth, he's still in this. Rossi, meanwhile, is still eighth but gaining. Too far gone for a podium challenge, but there could be some more points for him.

  13. 10' Pedrosa's lead is increasing, over 4s now and we can call him the winner of this race. The battle for third hots up as Dovizioso makes a move on Spies!

  14. 11' Lorenzo is losing time on Pedrosa, apparently content with second and looking to establish a gap over third more than anything else. Spes-Dovizioso-Crutchlow is a more engaging battle, that trio lined up for a big finish.

  15. 12' More news on Hayden - he is moving with full mobility and is basically fine. Lucky boy.

  16. 13' Pedrosa has extended his lead to 3s, always going to be the way with his superio speed. Meanwhile, Dovizioso has gone ahead of Crutchlow into fourth, with Spies holding on to third. A tight battle there.

  17. 14' An interesting ruck between the CRT boys around seventh, while Rossi has snuck back up to eighth after his little detour early on.

  18. 15' Lorenzo is trying to cut Pedrosa's lead but his bike doesn't have the same pace and he needs a change in conditions or for Pedrosa to lose concentration. Lorenzo has a good championship lead though so second is fine.

  19. 16' Pedrosa is now 0.736 ahead of Lorenzo and looking good. Spies still holding off Crutchlow and Dovizioso for third. The race has settled down now, consistent lap times as we head for a steady spell.

  20. 17' Pedrosa makes a move on Lorenzo going up the hill through corners 8-9 and, on the inside, glides past him on the more balanced bike. Now he leads.

  21. - Nicky Hayden has been taken to the medical centre for a check-up but we hear he is fine, walking and talking. Could have been a nasty one, he went into the barrier and flipped over it, leaving his bike behind.

  22. 18' So we've lost Hayden, Bradl and Salom already, with Pedrosa hot on Lorenzo's heels and a battle for third developing between Spies, Crutchlow and Dovizioso, who tries to make a move on the Briton but is closed off by him and Spies.

  23. 19' Bit of drama as Spies is taken by Bradl, while Crutchlow has a bit of trouble with Dovizioso lurking behind. And Bradl goes off his bike! Oh dear, he was sat nicely in third but lost the front end taking the bend and he's out!!

  24. 20' We have an issue with Hayden who has pulled up... He was losing speed. A replay shows he slid into a barrier and flipped up off his bike. Ow. Well his race is over. Salom is out too. Pedrosa, meanwhile, has closed in on Lorenzo a touch. These two well away.

  25. 21' Rossi has lost 13s or so after that near miss and he's back in 20th. Crutchlow is being blocked by Spies in what should be a head-to-head for a podium slot behind the dominant Spaniards.

  26. 22' Hayden with a cool pass on Rossi and as they get to the down slope Rossi almost makes contact with another rider, Rea I think, at speeds of 200mph! Lorenzo-Pedrosa-Spies-Crutchlow the early four, with Hayden losing speed.

  27. 23' They're off to a good start as Lorenzo gets away nicely to make the first corner in the lead, with Pedrosa and Hayden off well too.

  28. 13:00 While the warm-up continues, we have a report on a thrilling Moto 2 race earlier, with Pol Espargaro winning this third race this season. FULL REPORT HERE!

  29. 12:55 So Lorenzo is the form man at the moment, having won in San Marino last time out. He is 38 points clear of compatriot Pedrosa and is cementing his status as favourite for the title. The hurt Casey Stoner is 84 points behind and, with five races left including this one, I'd say he will settle for third. But what of Crutchlow, a rookie last year who has really moved on since joining from Superbikes? Next season could be a biggie for him and, starting third on the grid, he has a good chance today.
