Ligety's combined time of 2:30.8minutes was too strong for his rivals, the majority of the damage done in his first run that opened up a 0.66second lead.

Second in Slovenia was Austria's Benjamin Raich who put down a storming second run to jump up from 17th at the halfway stage, 0.18seconds behind Ligety.

Third went to Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen a further seven thousandths of a second behind.

Victory for Ligety means he stays fourth overall in the World Cup standings, 58 points off France's Alexis Pinturault in third.

The American is second in the Giant Slalom discipline standings as well but has closed Marcel Hirscher's lead to only 50 points.
