Sheffield Eagles founder Mark Aston has become the 30th recipient of the Rugby League Writers' Association merit award for services to rugby league.
Aston, who is chief executive and coach of the team he launched from the ashes of the old Super League club in 1999, was presented with his award at the association's annual dinner in Warrington by 2009 winner Steve Prescott.
"This helps make the last 13 years' work worthwhile," Aston said.
It was a double for the Eagles, with second row forward Michael Knowles receiving the Tom Bergin award as man of the match in Sheffield's recent Championship Grand Final win over Featherstone.
