Carlos Beltran broke out of an early slump with two hits and three RBIs as St. Louis evened the series against San Francisco in California.

Rookie Shelby Miller (1-0) earned his second career win after giving up two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Mitchell Boggs worked around a two-out single in the ninth for his first save for the Cardinals, who trailed 2-1 before Beltran capped a three-run fifth inning with a two-run double off Ryan Vogelsong (0-1).

Angels 8, Rangers 4

Albert Pujols homered twice and Peter Bourjos and Mark Trumbo also went deep as Los Angeles powered past the Rangers in Texas.

Pujols hit a two-run blast in the first and added a solo shot in the sixth for his 45th career multi-homer gamer.

Trumbo also hit a two-run shot in the opening inning as the Angels staked Tommy Hanson (1-0) to a four-run lead before he took the mound.

Nationals 7, Reds 6 (11)

Ian Desmond belted a lead off home run in the top of the 11th and Wilson Ramos clubbed his second homer of the game one out later as Washington prevailed in Cincinnati despite blowing a late four-run lead.

Bryce Harper and Ramos each swatted two-run homers and Jayson Werth added a solo blast to help the Nationals rebound from Friday night's 15-0 drubbing - their worst loss since the franchise moved from Montreal to Washington in 2005.

Blue Jays 5, Red Sox 0

J.P. Arencibia and Colby Rasmus each homered and four pitchers combined on a two-hitter as Toronto cruised past Boston.

J.A. Happ (1-0) yielded a lead off double to Jacoby Ellsbury before retiring 16 of the next 18 batters he faced. The left-hander, who departed after walking Shane Victorino with one out in the sixth, walked three and struck out six.

Mets 7, Marlins 3

John Buck drove in four runs and Daniel Murphy drilled a go-ahead RBI triple in the seventh inning as New York handed visiting Miami its fourth loss in five games to start the season.

David Wright added three hits for the Mets, including an RBI single to score Murphy in the seventh, and Buck's second sacrifice fly capped a three-run frame. Collin Cowgill also belted a solo homer in the eighth for New York and reliever Brandon Lyon (1-0) struck out two in a scoreless inning for the victory.

White Sox 4, Mariners 3

Alex Rios smashed a tie breaking two-run homer as the White Sox defeated Seattle ace Felix Hernandez in Chicago.

Conor Gillaspie went 2-for-3 and scored twice as the White Sox avenged Friday's 10-inning loss to the Mariners. Chicago racked up four runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings against Hernandez (1-1).

Donnie Veal (1-0) retired three batters for his second big-league victory and Addison Reed struck out two in a flawless ninth for his third save.
