(Adds later games) June 30 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Tuesday's Major League Baseball games. - - - White Sox 2, Cardinals 1 (11 innings) Chris Sale tied a 16-year-old Major League record by recording his eighth consecutive 10-strikeout game -- and even picked up his first MLB hit. Sale tossed six innings and struck out 12, tying Boston's Pedro Martinez for the feat. Martinez set the record from Aug. 19-Sept. 27, 1999. The Cardinals (51-25) saw their six-game winning streak end. They lost for just the eighth time in 37 home games. - - - Astros 4, Royals 0 Left-hander Dallas Keuchel worked eight shutout innings and made a convincing argument to start the All Star Game, pitching the Houston Astros to a win over the Kansas City Royals. Keuchel (10-3) joined Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez with double digit wins in the American League. He dominated Kansas City (44-30) in front of Royals manager Ned Yost, the AL manager for the All Star Game. The Astros (46-34) clustered their four runs over three innings against Royals left-hander Danny Duffy. - - - Nationals 6, Braves 1 Jordan Zimmermann pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings to lead the Washington Nationals past Atlanta. First baseman Clint Robinson hit a homer in a four-run first inning against usually tough Shelby Miller and Washington (43-34) has now beaten the Braves (36-41) nine straight times. - - - Rangers 8, Orioles 6 First baseman Mitch Moreland hit two home runs for the second consecutive game and the Texas Rangers hit four homers en route to a victory over the Baltimore Orioles. He finished t2-for-3 with four RBIs for Texas (40-38). The Orioles (41-36) banged out three homers themselves but it was not enough. - - - Cubs 1, Mets 0 Right-hander Kyle Hendricks combined with three relievers on a three-hitter and left fielder Matt Szczur drove in the game's only run with a sixth-inning double as the Chicago Cubs snapped a five-game losing streak. The Cubs (40-35) won despite scoring two runs or fewer for the sixth straight game. The Mets (40-38) had a four-game winning streak snapped. - - - Marlins 5, Giants 3 Second baseman Dee Gordon hit a three-run inside-the-park home run to lead the Miami Marlins to a win over the San Francisco Giants. The Marlins (32-46) won for just the third time in the past 12 games. Right-hander Ryan Vogelsong (6-6) took the loss and had his scoreless streak snapped at 14 1/3 innings. - - - Indians 6, Rays 2 Cleveland starter Danny Salazar took a perfect game into the sixth inning on the way to an easy win for the Indians over the Rays. Cleveland (35-41) got a combined two-hitter on the mound for the second night in a row and late home runs from rookie third baseman Giovanny Urshela and designated hitter David Murphy. The Rays (42-37) have now dropped seven of nine games. - - - Red Sox 4, Blue Jays 3 David Ortiz and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit home runs as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays. Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (4-2) allowed four hits, two walks and one run with four strikeouts in six innings, helping Boston beat Toronto (41-38) for the second game in a row to start a four-game series The Red Sox (36-43) won their third in a row. - - - Brewers 4, Phillies 3 Poor relief pitching by the Philadelphia Phillies doomed another solid start by Cole Hamels, as the Milwaukee Brewers came from behind to win. The Brewers (31-48), who scored two runs in the first inning and then watched the Phillies rally to go up 3-2 on a solo home run by catcher Carlos Ruiz in the sixth, took advantage of Phillies reliever Ken Giles with a pair of runs in the eighth. - - - Pirates 5, Tigers 4 (14 innings) Neil Walker lined a two-out RBI double into the right field corner to score Josh Harrison from second base in the 14th inning and give the Pittsburgh Pirates a victory over the Detroit Tigers. Gerrit Cole was shooting for his Major League-leading 12th win of the season but took a no-decision after allowing two runs over 6 2/3 innings for the Pirates (43-33). Justin Verlander surrendered three runs over six innings for Detroit (39-37). - - - Mariners 5, Padres 0 Rookie Mike Montgomery threw a one-hitter for his second consecutive shutout, leading the Seattle Mariners to a win over the San Diego Padres. Montgomery, who threw a career-high 113 pitches, became the seventh Mariner (35-42) to record consecutive shutouts. He is the 12th Major League rookie since 1980 to accomplish the feat. - - - Twins 8, Reds 5 Torii Hunter collected three hits, including a home run, to spark the resurgent Minnesota Twins offense in a victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The game was delayed two hours and 11 minutes largely due to an approaching storm that fizzled out before reaching the ballpark. Cincinnati (35-41) has lost four of five while the Twins improved to 41-36. - - - Angels 2, Yankees 1 Andrew Heaney gave up just two hits in seven innings to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a win over the New York Yankees. It was just the second big league start of the season for the 24-year-old lefty, who was called up from the minor leagues on June 24. At 41-37, the Angels are four games over .500 for just the second time this season. With the loss, the Yankees are also 41-37. - - - Rockies 2, Athletics 1 Left-hander Jorge De La Rosa pitched seven shutout innings, and the Colorado Rockies ended their three-game losing streak with a victory against the Oakland A's. The Rockies (34-43) won an interleague game for the first time this season after losing their first seven.
