Bellator Fighter Joe Vedepo Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting a Police Officer in Iowa

Bellator MMA fighter Joe Vedepo remains in custody on Monday with a $10,000 bond for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Iowa on Friday.

The 32-year-old faces one count of assault causing injury to a peace officer, two counts of assault on peace officers and one count of public intoxication.

A report from KCRG.com states that Iowa City Police were called to the Sports Column at 2:22 p.m. on Friday for a man inside who refused to leave. The responding officers confronted Vedepo, who attempted to go back into the sports bar.

Vedepo resisted and allegedly head-butted an officer in the chest, sending the officer to the hospital with back injuries.

Officers attempted to handcuff Vedepo, who rolled to his back and began kicking, striking an officer. According to the report, officers used a Taser on the fighter, but it wasn’t effective. It took several officers to forcefully put Vedepo’s hands behind his back.

After his arrest, Vedepo blew a .241 on a breathalyzer test, three times the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle in Iowa.

Vedepo last fought on Nov. 15 at Bellator 131 in San Diego where he was defeated by “King Mo” Lawal in a light heavyweight bout by technical knockout.
