The German two-time Olympic champion will call time on her career at the tender age of 25 come the end of this season but she shows no sign of going down with a whimper.
The win - Neuner's fifth of the season from 13 races and tenth podium appearance - was enough to extend her lead in the overall World Cup standings to 69 points over Darya Domracheva of Belarus.
Domracheva had to settle for third on the day in Italy, over 30 seconds shy of German winner Neuner who, with just one penalty, clocked 20 minutes 27.7 seconds.
Norway's Tora Berger and Sweden's Helena Ekholm rounded out the top five but, despite a late effort from Makarainen, it was Neuner's day.
