Despite blizzard conditions at round five in Nove Mesto, two-time Olympic champion Zaitseva was dead-eyed when it mattered most with the riffle in hand to take the win in 23.08.1 minutes.
The Russian’s flawless rounds saw her hold off Norwegian rival Tora Berger, who finished 25.5 seconds back to claim silver while German biathlon legend Magdalena Neuner was third.
Marie Laure Brunet of France took fourth while Olga Vilukhina and Ekaterina Glazyrina made it a day to remember for Russia by taking swelling their number of top six finishers to three.
