Bobby Green and Jorge Masvidal Square Off at UFC 178 After Quick Turn from Victories

Bobby Green and Jorge Masvidal Square Off at UFC 178 After Quick Turn from Victories

Bobby Green and Jorge Masvidal are wasting no time after both were successful at Saturday’s UFC on FOX 12 in San Jose, Calif. They’ve already agreed to step into the cage with one another to see who will continue shimmying up the food chain.

UFC officials on Tuesday announced that Green and Masvidal have agreed to fight each other on Sept. 27 at UFC 178 in Las Vegas.

Green (23-5) has been on an amazing eight-fight winning streak, capped by his UFC on FOX 12 victory over Josh Thomson. The victory may have come via the sour-tasting split-decision variety, but it’s a feather in Green’s cap to now have a win over the former Strikeforce lightweight champion on his resume.

It certainly increases the value of Green’s stock, putting him on the cusp of title talk.

Before becoming a true title contender, however, Green will have to get past Masvidal (27-8), a fellow Strikeforce transfer, who scored a unanimous-decision victory over highly touted Daron Cruickshank at UFC on FOX 12.

Masvidal has won four out of five bouts since moving to the Octagon, his only loss being to Russian standout Rustam Khabilov.

Like Green, he is trying to pad his resume to the point where a title shot can’t be denied.

Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones headlines the UFC 178 fight card, putting his belt on the line against Daniel Cormier at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
