Boxing - Bellew makes cruiserweight debut on March 15

Liverpool’s Tony Bellew (20-2-1) will face former World cruiserweight title challenger Valery Brudov (41-4) in his first fight at the weight on March 15 at the Echo Arena.  Bellew steps up a division after challenging Adonis Stevenson for the WBC Light Heavyweight crown in November, and the 31 year old faces a stern test as Russian Brudov has five World title challenges to his name.

On what promises to be a massive night for boxing in the city, Stephen ‘Swifty’ Smith is expected to challenge experienced Argentinian Fernando David Saucedo (51-5-3) for the the WBC Silver featherweight title in an eliminator bout. Stephen’s older brother Paul will make a defence of his British super middleweight title.

The youngest Smith, super middleweight Callum will look to build on a successful year in 2013 where he raced to 9-0 with a sequence of six first-round wins. Commonwealth champion Rocky Fielding will defend against Tony Dodson, who fights in Hull on February 22.

Sheffield welterweight Kell Brook and Dagenham lightweight Kevin Mitchell will both be in action, along with Birmingham’s unbeaten super flyweight Kal Yafai. Local prospect Robbie Davies Jnr takes his fifth pro fight.
