Boxing - Gill hopes to provide Patterson with an experience to remember

After picking up a Masters title in his first ten rounder earlier in this month, fancied welterweight Ahmet 'Pattycake' Patterson (9-0) faces Phil 'The Phil Gill Experience' Gill (14-1-2) for the Southern Area welterweight belt on July 5 at the Camden Centre.

Gill hopes to provide Patterson with an experience to remember

Stylist Patterson (9-0), from Leyton, coasted to a points win over tough Nottingham southpaw Dale Miles at the same venue on June 2, and will be looking to make it ten wins out of ten against Waltham Abbey's Gill (pictured), who only recently moved up to welter after spending most of his career thus far at lightweight.

Gill's last shot at the Southern Area title ended in disappointment after being overwhelmed in the first round by tough Hove scrapper Ben Murphy, who went on to contest the British version.

Since then, Gill, from Waltham Abbey, has notched up a couple of wins including a four round shutout over seasoned East Ham journeyman Johnny Greaves. But he's under no illusions about the difficulty of the task ahead.

"It's a big risk", said Gill.

"A big step up from the weight I'm used to fighting at, but then you have to take your chances when you get given them.

"Realistically, I'm not going to outbox this guy, so Im going to have to go for the knockout, even though I'm not really known as a puncher.

"But neither is Patterson. I'm boxing against a rising star, and I'm gonna try my hardest to f** his day up.

"It's time for me to live up to my name and provide Patterson with an experience to remember."

Also on the Camden Centre bill will be Irish Lightning Dean Byrne (16-2-1), Hove light middleweight prospect Lloyd Ellett (9-0), Peckham Pexican Johnny Garton (8-0) and Watford middleweight Elliott Matthews, who gets a chance to finish what he started against Latvian Raimonds Sniedze (8-5) after a bad cut turned their first meeting into a technical draw.
