AS reports the Spain international as saying in a video posted on Facebook that he is ‘99% sure’ he has damaged his cruciate ligament in his left knee.
“I’ve been talking to the doctor and there is a 99% chance I have broken the cruciate ligament,” the former Athletic Bilbao man said.
“If it’s definitely the cruciate I will have an operation tomorrow and start working to become stronger, more eager and a better player. I’ll be back.”
Pep Guardiola said after the match that Martinez’s injury was more worrying than losing the German Super Cup to Dortmund.
“The worst news of the match is a serious injury to Martinez, who was in good shape,” Guardiola said.
“This Thursday we will know if we have him, but I think it will be a long time.”
