Derby defender Jake Buxton has been ruled out for up to eight weeks with a knee injury.
The 27-year-old underwent a series of scans earlier this week and after meeting with a specialist it has been confirmed he has suffered medial ligament damage in his right knee.
Buxton sustained the injury in last weekend's 3-1 win over Leeds at Pride Park.
"Jake is likely to be out for about eight weeks, which is two months of course, so it is a big blow to lose him," manager Nigel Clough told the club's official website.
"He's been one of our most consistent players this season so to lose him is desperately disappointing for the team, and of course Jake himself on a personal note - but the good thing is when he does return he'll have plenty of games to get his teeth in to in the last few months of the season.
"With Shaun Barker out injured all season he's really stepped up to the plate and he'll be missed that is for sure, but it gives someone else an opportunity now and it's down to them to take it."
