Peter Shirtliff will not be considered for the full-time job as Bury manager

Bury have ruled caretaker boss Peter Shirtliff out of the running for permanent manager's post at Gigg Lane.

A statement published on the club's official website on Friday confirmed a shortlist of five potential candidates to replace Richie Barker will be interviewed over the coming days, with an appointment targeted before next weekend's trip to Stevenage.

Shirtliff, assisted by player coach Ben Futcher, has yet to record a win in charge ahead of Saturday's home game against MK Dons, and the Shakers are bottom of npower League One without a win since Barker's departure to Crawley on the eve of the season.

The statement read: "The board of directors have drawn up a shortlist of five potential managers for Bury Football Club. Interviews will take place within the next few days and we hope to be able to reveal the Shakers' new manager in time for next weekend's game at Stevenage.

"The chairman and board of directors would like to place on record their thanks and appreciation to Peter Shirtliff and Ben Futcher for their professionalism and loyalty to the club. Both Peter and Ben will remain in our plans for the future, working with the new manager."
