Classy Mares too good for Morel

Abner Mares dominated Eric Morel to win the vacant WBC junior featherweight title in El Paso, Texas.

The impressive Mexican controlled the fight against the Puerto Rican veteran for 12 rounds in a near shut-out performance.

The three judges scored the contest 120-107, 119-109 and 119-109 to hand an easy victory to the 26-year-old who moves to 24-0-1 (13 KOs).

On the undercard, Anselo Moreno (33-1-1, 12KOs) retained his WBA bantamweight championship with a ninth round stoppage of David De La Mora.

De La Mora was down in the second and the sixth before failing to return from his corner for the ninth.

Meanwhile in San Juan, Argentina, Omar Narvaez won the WBO super flyweight with a 12-round unanimous decision over Jose Cabrera.

It was the first time that Narvaez has returned to the ring since losing his unbeaten record to Nonito Donaire in New York last October.

Narvaez's new record stands at (36-1-2, 19 KOs)
