Clay Guida On Conor McGregor: “If You Want to See That Guy Cry, Put Him in There With Me for Five Rounds”
UFC featherweight Clay Guida logged an impressive unanimous decision win over Tatsuya Kawajiri at UFC Fight Night 39 in Abu Dhabi on Friday and called out Conor McGregor during his post-fight interview.
“The UFC is protecting this leprechaun. I don’t call anybody out, but once you heal up, you want to fight a real man,” stated Guida inside the Octagon following the win.
Guida was the second fighter on the fight card to call out the Irisman. Jim Alers took to the microphone following his split decision win over Alan Omer on the preliminary card and said he’s coming for McGregor. McGregor has had words with several fighters in the division and some outside of the weight class. He and Diego Sanchez have gone back-and-forth on Twitter. He and Cole Miller regularly take shots at one another through social media.
Guida has nothing personal against the brash up-and-comer. He just wants to see him tested and would like to be the fighter to do it.
“He doesn’t really rub me the wrong way. I believe that he has got all the talents, but we haven’t seen him tested yet. It’s good to see up-and-comers get a lot of publicity like him,” said Guida during the event’s post-fight press conference.
“But I think maybe the fact that him and my good friend and teammate Cub Swanson had a little beef one night at a show, and the fact that they’re keeping him in close quarters and keeping an eye on him by fighting in his own country. Let’s see what he’s made of. It doesn’t have to be his next fight. Let’s let him get a little momentum and then put him in there against a guy that’s got some experience and we’ll see what he’s made of,” he added.
Questioned about whether he’d like to face McGregor in a standard three-round fight or a five-round main event-type of match-up, Guida didn’t hesitate with his answer.
“Five rounds is my thing. If you want to see that guy cry, put him in there with me for five rounds,” said the 32-year-old UFC veteran.
