Paul Coutts has spoken of his pride after captaining Preston to victory over MK Dons at the weekend.

Ahead of the game, a run of one win in 11 npower League One matches cost manager Phil Brown his job. Veteran midfielder Graham Alexander and coach David Unsworth took temporary charge in Milton Keynes and handed the armband to Coutts, who proceeded to turn in a stellar display as North End won 1-0 courtesy of Paul Parry's early strike.

Coutts told the club's official website: "It was a great honour to be named captain, I enjoyed the role. Unsy told me in the lead up to the game and I thought he was joking. Then he said it again in the meeting that I was going to be leading the team out."

On the team's performance, Coutts added: "We came quickly out of the traps, we knew that we would have to start well and we did do. We kept our shape throughout the game and after taking the early lead they were always going to come on the attack, but we defended very well."
