Crewe skipper Artell on the mend

Crewe skipper Dave Artell has given his side a fitness boost ahead of the play-offs.

The centre-half has been sidelined for the last three matches with a hamstring injury but is back in training and in contention for Saturday's first leg against Southend.

Boss Steve Davies told the club's official website: "Dave will train, a short and intense session and we will see how he comes through that.

"He has been feeling fine and running around so we will see how he goes."

Davis also reported further good news from the treatment room.

"Ashley Westwood's foot is a bit sore but he wants to train," he added. "Ajay Leitch-Smith has a dead leg but should be fine. Shaun Miller has returned from illness and is back with us and we have everyone nearly available."
