Owais Shah signed a new contract with Essex in February

A statement from the ECB Cricket Discipline Commission confirmed that they had fined Essex £500 and Shah £250 "in respect of a breach of regulations in that an unregistered agent was engaged in the execution of a recent employment transaction".

It continued: "After investigation, it is accepted by the Commission that although neither party knowingly and wilfully breached the regulations, they admit the breach and apologise for it. Both parties have accepted the financial penalty. In these circumstances the matter has been dealt with by way of summary procedure."

Essex announced on February 27 that Shah had signed a new contract with them, running from the conclusion of his 2013 Indian Premier League campaign with Rajasthan Royals until the end of the forthcoming domestic season.

The 34-year-old former England international joined Essex in November 2010 after leaving Middlesex.
