The Super Kings set a target of 170 courtesy of MS Dhoni and Mike Hussey’s efforts. Dhoni escaped unscathed from a dropped chance and smashed home 44 off 23 balls, while opener Hussey scored a boundary-laden 66 from 50 balls.
Delhi skipper Mahela Jayawardene tried to rotate his bowlers to limit the damage, but Chennai nonetheless claimed 54 runs in the last five overs.
Mohit Sharma then got the Super Kings off to a dream start on the field, bowling out David Warner and trapping Manprit Juneja to put Delhi on 13 for two in just the second over.
Dwayne Bravo then caught out three before bowling Umesh Yadav into the palms of Suresh Raina to secure victory.
