Cris Cyborg Gives Up on Bantamweight Dream Fight with Ronda Rousey
Invicta FC featherweight champ Cris “Cyborg” Justino is giving up on plans to drop to 135 pounds in an attempt to get a fight with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
The fight between Cyborg and Rousey is one that fans have longed for. But it has been clear from the beginning, as long as Rousey is the UFC 135-pound champ, any fight between the two would have to occur at that weight class.

Cyborg lobbied for a long time to try and get the fight at a catchweight, perhaps 140 pounds, instead of at her more comfortable weight of 145 pounds or Rousey’s preferred weight of 135 pounds. With that not happening, she eventually succumbed to the idea of working her way down to 135 pounds.
Cyborg was scheduled to take her first fight at 135 pounds at Invicta 10 on Dec. 5. That all fell apart when she had to withdraw due to injury, and now, feeling like she is the only one making an effort to get the fight with Rousey to happen, Cyborg has decided to relent.
“From now on, I will only fight at my weight or at a catchweight,” Cyborg told Tatame.com on Monday. “I realized I’m the only one making an effort for this fight to happen. I believe both should make an effort.”
With that effort not forthcoming from Rousey and the UFC, Cyborg is expected to fight on the next Invicta card in February to defend her belt at 145 pounds.
