Bauer finished well down the field in the sprint at the season opening stage World Cup in Finland but stormed up the overall rankings with a fine victory in the 10km individual.

He clocked 24:43.6minutes for the win however Roenning was only 2.4seconds behind for second, which courtesy of his 16th place in the sprint, put him into the lead.

Everything is still to play for though with Russian Dmitriy Japarov 15th in the sprint but third in the 10km individual to jump up to second overall, trailing by just 0.3.

Paal Golberg went from 26th to third after a fourth-place finish in the 10km individual with the 15km pursuit next up set to be an intriguing battle at the season opener in Kuusamo.
