The sight of Bjoergen on the podium in Val di Fiemme is becoming a regular occurrence: she headed into the 4x5km relay having won sprint and pursuit gold as well as freestyle silver.

She clearly had an appetite for more as she brought Norway home in 1:00:36.5 to defend their Olympic and world titles.

There was also a similar sight with Sweden taking silver in 1:01:02.7, this the same colour they ended up with in Oslo two years ago.

However there was a new team taking bronze as Yulia Tchekaleva overtook USA's Jessica Diggins on the final lap to lead Russia to third – Tchekaleva picking up her second medal of the competitions having also won bronze in the freestyle event.

The victories was Norway's sixth in Italy and extends their lead atop the overall leaderboard as they have now collected 15 medals.

Russia are their closest challengers but are some way behind with just four medals, one more than USA in third.
