Cub Swanson vs. Jeremy Stephens Headlines UFC's Debut Event in San Antonio

Following UFC 171: Hendricks vs. Lawler in Dallas this past weekend, UFC president Dana White revealed that the company would return to Texas this summer for a UFC Fight Night event in San Antonio.

On Wednesday, the promotion confirmed to FoxSports.com that the June 28 event at the AT&T Center would be headlined by a featherweight bout between Cub Swanson and Jeremy Stephens.

Swanson (20-5) has been angling for a title shot for some time, having racked up five consecutive victories after losing his UFC debut to Ricardo Lamas in late 2011.

Since that loss, he’s rebounded to the tune of knockouts in four of his five consecutive victories. His streak contains a who’s who of the UFC 145-pound roster including Dennis Siver, Dustin Poirier, Charles Oliveira, Ross Pearson, and George Roop.

A victory over Stephens would be a huge feather in his cap, and make him all but a lock for a title shot in the near future.

After stumbling in three of the last four lightweight bouts on his resume, Stephens (23-9) has made a successful transition to featherweight, where he is now two-for-two.

Stephens knocked out highly touted Brazilian Rony Jason in his first fight at 145 pounds, and followed that with a unanimous decision victory over Darren Elkins.

Swanson vs. Stephens will be a five-round, non-title fight.
