Trott, a star on the track in the London 2012 Games, eventually finished fourth having ridden in a breakaway during the 113.6km race in Belgium.

The 20-year-old was part of a 13-strong breakaway, who hit the front on the first of four laps around the 28.4km course. Trott stayed with the attack as riders were dropped in the final 20km, but was outmuscled on the final stretch.

Vera Kedooder (Sengers Ladies) made her attack at the death and took a solo victory, while Iris Slappendel and Sanne Van Paasen (both Rabobank-Liv/Giant) completed the podium.
