Despite Reports, Georges St-Pierre Undecided if He’ll Return to Fighting
On Wednesday, a former manager of Georges St-Pierre, Stephane Patry, reported to RDS that his former client had decided to return to fighting. 24 hours later, St-Pierre’s coach, Firas Zahabi, refuted Patry’s claims.
“Georges has absolutely no return plan [right now],” Zahabi told MMAFighting.com.
St-Pierre decided to take an extended leave of absence from fighting following his ninth consecutive welterweight title defense against Johnny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November 2013. The 33-year-old former champion then suffered a torn ACL in March and is recovering.
He has not officially announced a retirement or stated that he has definitive plans to return.
After St-Pierre voluntarily relinquished his 170-pound title, Hendricks went on to win the vacant belt by defeating Robbie Lawler at UFC 171 in March. The two are set to rematch at UFC 181 on Dec. 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
