Eddie Alvarz vs. Michael Chandler 3 Set for May 17 Bellator Pay-Per-View

The trilogy between Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and former titleholder Michael Chandler will take place on May 17. Bellator MMA CEO Bjorn Rebney made the announcement during Friday’s Bellator 110 broadcast on Spike TV.

“Alvarez and Chandler 1 was the greatest fight I have ever seen cage side. Then last November 2nd they did it again and the second fight was better than the first,” said Rebney. “Sometimes when you put two of the greatest fighters on Earth in the cage together they just give you artistic majesty. And on May 17, live on pay-per-view, Saturday, May 17, you’re going to see these two guys in the trilogy fight once and for all, Alvarez vs. Chandler for the world title.”

Chandler (12-1) defeated Alvarez (25-3) at Bellator 58 in November 2011 to capture the lightweight crown. Alvarez avenged the loss and won back the belt on Nov. 2, 2013 by split decision.

“The last fight left a bitter taste in my mouth. I’m excited to do it again. It’s a fight the fans want to see. It’s a chance for redemption for myself,” said Chandler. “Obviously every time Eddie and myself step into the cage it’s going to be a war. I commend him for that, and I’m looking forward to it.”

“I think me and my team created a blueprint, a way to figure out Mike Chandler. I think we’re going to leave it up to his guys to make adjustments this time,” said Alvarez. “Adjustments and technique is out the window. It’s about all wills. If you guys want to see a real fight tune in.”

Rebney did not disclose the venue or location for the match-up.
