At the event in Switzerland, the 44-year-old rode Magnus Romeo, the same horse upon which he claimed victory in the Chantilly Grand Prix last July.

Not long before that, Dreher had stood on the second step of the podium at the Monaco Grand Prix, this time having ridden his trusty steed Embassy.

He was also a member of the team that won the Nations Cup in Calgary, again atop Embassy, but Dreher really made the equestrian world sit up and take notice with his fourth place in the Aachen Grand Prix.

Yet Dreher has not taken the same path as many of his international team-mates - he only rode once in the German championships, in 2011, finishing seventh with Magnus Romeo.

It was the same year that Dreher and Magnus Romeo - previously ridden by Clarissa Crotta then Beat Mändli -teamed up.

Notoriously difficult to ride, Magnus was a challenge for the German. But he proved able to cope with the horse and together they finished fifth at the Hickstead Grand Prix before ending the year in style with fourth place at the World Cup Grand Prix in Malines.
