The Italian Tarmac classic, which first appeared on the full ERC roster in 1964, takes place from 10-12 October and celebrates its 55th anniversary in 2013.

“We’re putting together the final details now and we’ll have one or two new things but we’re also going to stick with the tried and trusted elements that work, such as the service park on the seafront and the media centre in the old station,” said Sergio Maiga, president of event organiser ACI Sanremo.

“We can expect about 230 kilometres of stages this year, with the start on Thursday afternoon, possibly in the centre of the town: we already want to have a few stages on Thursday as we used to. And of course we will keep the usual parade through the town on Friday. This is a symbol of how important the rally is for the town.”

As well as counting as a round of the ERC, Rallye Sanremo forms part of the Italian Rally Championship, a prospect that further excites Maiga, particularly if multiple national champion Paolo Andreucci takes part in a Peugeot 208 T16.

“We believe that we should see the debut of the Peugeot 208 T16, which is due to be homologated at the beginning of Sanremo and hopefully Paolo Andreucci will drive it, which will be a big attraction,” said Maiga. “We might have some other special guests and we’re working on doing a specific stage to mark our birthday.”
