The Staggies took another step towards remaining in the SPL after Richard Brittan's brilliant late strike cancelled out Gary Mackay-Steven's second-half opener.

For Adams, it was a reward they had earned.

Adams said: "It was nothing more than we deserved. I thought in the first half we dominated most of the play and passed the ball very well. Then Dundee United obviously scored against run of the play which was hard to take. But it's always a good point coming to a place like Tannadice."

He added: "It was a very good strike from Richard Brittain.

"He's very capable of doing that. He's a big player for us. We've had other opportunities in the game to score I don't think both keepers were worked enough today. We lose Richard next season to St Johnstone but until then we've got 16 games to go now which we'll focus fully on."

United manager Peter Houston was left frustrated as his side now have not won at Tannadice since way back in August.

Houston said: "We needed a second goal to kill them off and, to be fair, it was a wonder strike from Brittain. But I can't fault the players for their attitude and commitment. It's just that the home record might be a mental thing for them."

Meanwhile, Houston is promising business as usual as the Tayside club step up their search for a new manager after he revealed recently he would be leaving in the summer.

He said: "I'm ignoring all speculation. I've declared I'm going and that gives me five months for the board of directors to find a new manager. So they have to get a head start on their work to make sure they get the right person. I'll carry on as normal. I'm contracted until May and want to get the team into Europe for the fourth season running."
