Football - Ainsworth appreciates Still advice

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth watched Sam Wood's strike down Dagenham & Redbridge, then revealed opposite number John Still has been the greatest source of inspiration in his fledgling managerial career.

Ainsworth's first game in charge, then as caretaker manager, of the Chairboys was a 3-0 defeat against the Daggers back in September.

Wood's first-half strike ensured Ainsworth gained a measure of revenge on his former boss - the midfielder played under Still at Lincoln - but he was in no mood for gloating.

"I have a lot of respect for John. I played under him and he furthered my career as a player with the advice he gave me," said Ainsworth.

"And he has as a manager too. After the last game between us he gave me the best advice I've had since becoming a manager. He said don't let the highs get too high and the lows get too low, and that's really shaped my attitude towards management."

Ainsworth added: "We are looking up the table and that is a good place to be in.

"Without the fans and the trust members who helped clear the pitch the game wouldn't have gone ahead and we wouldn't have got the points.

"I made the players aware in the team talk how hard the fans had worked this morning and I told them if we did the same we would win."

Wood scored the only goal of the game after 32 minutes after coming off his wing to fire a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
