Only the width of a post prevented Baxter from snatching what would have been a dramatic late winner while Chris Porter was also agonisingly close to prodding home as the loose ball bounced around the Oldham penalty area seconds before the final whistle.
Clough said: "Sometimes it's all about small margins and getting that lucky break you sometimes need.
"We didn't get that out there but if the lads keep on working hard then that will come.
"I've got mixed emotions because we didn't start well and there were things we could have done a lot better. Things that we have been doing a lot better in fact.
"But we showed good character to come back into the game and overcome that. That showed good resiliance which is a quality we are going to need, and so that was pleasing.
"Obviously we would have liked to have won, that goes without saying. But the unbeaten run continues and that is vitally important and pleasing too.
"The more momentum we can get the better."
