Football - Clean sheet pleases Powell

Charlton manager Chris Powell was delighted his side managed to keep a rare clean sheet in a goalless draw with Blackpool at the Valley.

Charlton did not create many chances to win the game but Powell was not complaining even though his injury-hit side are just one place above the Sky Bet Championship drop zone.

"It's our first clean sheet of the season and our first at home since November," he said. "I have been willing us to get one and it has been individual mistakes that have really cost us.

"In respect of today, another positive is that it's another point for us, especially with the players we have available.

"We are missing a number of key players but the boys who are out there are willing themselves and pushing themselves to try to get us wins and points."

The Blackpool draw followed a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

"I have got to say we have played two of the top six with arguably a weaker squad because of injuries and they have managed to get two really positive draws," Powell added.

"Obviously we are in the business to win games but looking at it I have got to take the positives as 1-1 against Forest and 0-0 against Blackpool has arrested the three defeats we had previously and we can now do our best to build on that.

"That's the only bonus from the international break, that the boys can recover and the injured boys can hopefully make themselves available for the upcoming games."
