Football - Confidence issue isn't a crisis - Adams

Port Vale boss Micky Adams insists there is no sense of growing crisis in the changing room.

The Valiants, who sit second in npower League Two, have lost their previous three outings, with Cheltenham closing the gap on them to just one point.

But Adams believes the problem lies in a lack of confidence and has backed his players to once again display their true potential.

He told the club's official website: "When confidence is not quite right you have that extra touch and then that allows the defender to come in and close you down.

"We have given ourselves a platform to work from and I am sure there are lots of teams below us who would have snatched our hands off to swap places with us.

"There is no panic, there is no crisis and we are not going to turn it into a crisis, but we need the bigger players to come alive again and show everybody what they are capable of doing.

"What we want to do over the next few games in a busy Christmas period is once again establish ourselves as a good team at the top of the table.

"To do that we have got to go to places like Cheltenham and Rotherham in the next three games and show them what we are all about.

"If we can do that we will continue picking up points and establish ourselves in the top three."
