Football - Derry hails 'best' County victory

Shaun Derry was left completely satisfied by Notts County's best performance of his tenure as they beat Coventry 3-0.

A Hayden Mullins strike got County off to a flyer, before James Spencer's 30-yard effort sent the home fans into a frenzy.

And, to cap off a complete display, stand-in skipper Alan Sheehan converted a late spot-kick to send the Magpies out of the League One relegation zone.

Derry, who was appointed in November, was pleased to see his side end a run of three straight league defeats in such emphatic fashion.

"The performance was the best I've seen since I've been here," he said. "We've had some fantastic results and some great wins, but if you look at the whole performance that was a proper, proper, team performance.

"It was the best I've seen defensively, the best I've seen from the midfield and up front too.

"I thought we were very clinical and the experienced lads showed just why they will be so crucial for us from now until the end of the season.

"The players really wanted to show the fans what they were made of and as I say, it was a complete performance.

"I said to the players before the game that if they looked back at the good results we've had, think about how well we started those games. It sets the tone for the afternoon and a good start is exactly what we delivered."
