Football - Digby hoping to feature

Barnsley teenager Paul Digby is hoping to make his first senior appearance in 17 months against Scunthorpe in the Capital One Cup Round 1 tie against Scunthorpe.

The 18-year-old, who recently signed a new four-year contract at Oakwell, burst on to the first-team scene in September 2011, but missed the whole of last season due to a hip injury and a calf strain ruled him out of Saturday's heavy opening-day defeat to Wigan.

"He could return and be in contention for the cup tie with Scunthorpe," said manager David Flitcroft, who has high hopes for the Sheffield-born midfielder.

"The great news is that Diggers has signed a new deal. I'm so delighted he's tied himself to the football club.

"He made his debut for Barnsley at 16, but has suffered a bit through injuries. If we get 100 games on his CV he'll be ready for the big time."
