The 21-year-old left-back spent the first half of the season on loan with the Buddies, making 19 appearances for the Paisley outfit, before returning to St James Park at the turn of the year.
The experience gained in the Scottish Premier League was enough to convince Magpies boss Alan Pardew to then hand him his first-team debut for the Barclays Premier League side in their FA Cup third round defeat to Brighton.
However, he was expected to rejoin St Mirren before the end of the January transfer window after his parent club secured the signing of French left-back Massadio Haidara.
But those plans have now fallen through and the defender - who is out of contract at Newcastle in the summer - will be staying put for now.
A St Mirren insider confirmed: "Paul will not be rejoining us in this transfer window.
"We had hoped with Newcastle signing a new left-back that would allow Paul to return here for the remainder of the season but it seems Alan Pardew has decided against it."
