Football - Evans hoping for 'magical' rewards

Rotherham boss Steve Evans knows the potential rewards that come with beating Rochdale in the FA Cup this weekend.

The Millers welcome their League Two opponents to New York with a prize in the third round at stake and the possibility of being matched with the biggest clubs in the country.

Evans' pedigree in this competition is notable, twice guiding former club Crawley to the fifth round - the first as a non-league team - and then leading the Millers into the third round for the first time in a decade last season.

Although the in-form League One side are favourites to progress against Dale, Evans is not expecting an easy afternoon.

"We've got a tough tie and a team that we wouldn't have hand-picked out of the draw," he said. "I have read things in the press from their players that they are planning to come here and win so we have to be on guard of that.

"In my opinion they have got a manager who will be tactically ready to come here and do battle with us.

"The FA Cup is a magical competition.

"We would love another run in a cup competition, it reinforces the spirit in the squad, it increases competition for places and we would love to be in the third-round draw on Sunday hoping to pick a big cherry off the tree."
