The Millers, who are preparing for life in League One, saw off Dougie Freedman's men after goals from Alex Revell and Daniel Nardiello eclipsed Marvin Sordell's first-half opener.

It made it four wins and a draw from their opening five games and Evans is happy with where his side are at.

We knew they would play with a real purpose and pass it around and that's why we made the strategic decision to give as many players 90 minutes as possible," he said.

"I don't believe in friendlies and I think you should play every match to win but I thought there were a few outstanding performances.

"It is just another step on the road to being ready for August 3.

"You have to have a mix of opponents, that's why we went to Scotland last week and playing Championship sides will offer us something different."
