The former Mainz, Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund striker allegedly issued three bad cheques to an Egyptian real estate company.

An Egyptian court has since ruled that Zidan, who was not present for the case, must serve six years in prison, though it is not entirely clear of his whereabouts.

The 31-year-old has been without a club since leaving United Arab Emirates outfit Baniyas in January, but has been working as a television pundit for Al-Jazeera Sports.

Arab Company for Projects and Urban Development filed the suit against Zidan earlier this year. The man who made 44 caps for his national side will be able to appeal the sentencing upon his return to the country.
