Football - German arrivals please Freund

Tottenham assistant coach Steffen Freund believes the influx of German players can only be good for the Premier League, given the quality in the Bundesliga.

Germany provided both Champions League finalists last year as Bayern Munich defeated rivals Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

Freund thinks they have raised the bar for English football and that the most recent arrivals of Andre Schurrle and Lewis Holtby are a blessing to the Premier League.

"It does the Premier League a world of good to have so many good German players here," said Freund.

"The successes of the German clubs in the Champions League increases the pressure on the top teams in England once again.

"It's going to be interesting to see what's possible for Arsenal and for us."

The two London sides fit in behind the big three, who Freund believes may have some teething problems with new set-ups this season.

Jose Mourinho is back in the Chelsea hot-seat, David Moyes fills Sir Alex Ferguson's boots at Manchester United and Manuel Pellegrini is tasked with taking Manchester City onto the next level in Europe while challenging for domestic honours.

"It's going to be an incredibly exciting season in England because the top three - United, City and Chelsea - have all got completely new management," said Freund to Germany's Sky Sport television.
