The January signingfrom Bristol City, whose goals helped fire the Cherries into the Sky Bet Championship, had to be withdrawn for Elliot Ward before the half-time interval.
And his manager explained why he had to substitute a player who had been their liveliest until that point.
"He just felt his hamstring tighten up," Howe said. "We are hoping its not a pull, he is so important to us.
"We don't want to lose him so we are hopeful that is not too serious."
Howe was also full of praise for winger Mohamed Coulibaly, whose display earned him the sponsors' man of the match award.
"I thought it was an impressive debut from him, I was really pleased," Howe said. "It is not easy for him, he hasn't been in the country long or with his team-mates either.
"He has fitted well into the group and he has talent and pace. I felt he performed really well and can be really pleased.
"The real test for him will come when he is pitched into the Championship and how he adapts to the league but the signs so far are good."
